Game Of Two Halves!

1st 45 was rubbish. The intended 4-3-3 turned into a 4-5-1 with stead constantly isolated up top. Good penalty save by DJ which should have been a turning point but we continued with route one dross. Millen got it tactically wrong IMO.

So all credit to Keith for making the change and going back to 4-4-2, 2nd half was MUCH better. Pitman deserved his goal, he played well and chased everything. We were still slightly shaky in defense at times but the opposition are always going to have spells.

And what a goal by Clarkson. Wow. So well done Keith and the boys great win over an in form Leicester side. Another massive game next week against Sheff UTD.

Agree with most of that, except, I thought the defence played well BOTH halves, crikey it was the only thing keeping LC from a cricket score! But much improved 2nd half, Pitman excellent, Caulker and Ribs outstanding.

A cliche perhaps but rarely more appropriate than today.

451 was wrong (don't think it was ever even intended to be 433 judging by how wide and deep the wingers started), but credit to KM he realised that and made the change early enough to have an impact.

I wasn't sure on the penalty, it looked like the forward dived after he knew he had played it out - James made a great save though. Everything in the first half was dire because we had no movement up front and made unforced errors with great frequency.

The sub changed the game, not only was Pitman very good when he came on (vision and control outstanding and he won some good headers too) his presence created space for others and put Leicester on the back foot.

The first goal was a well worked set piece and an assured finish, the second a moment of real skill.

Leicester probably were worth a draw but were toothless in their possession and we did defend well.

There were strong performances from Ribeiro, Caulker, Fontaine, Stead (as usual). Rose was concerningly disinterested and didn't once get behind his man. Adomah was lively but needs to go outside 3/4 of the time not inside 3/4 of the time.

None of the midfield three had a good game, they all made basic errors and did not close down sufficiently well. McAllister was no different to usual.

James - played well in the main but not sure if the penalty really was and made one kicking rick.

Clarkson when he came on was all over the shop, poor until the goal but what a goal, and Cisse looked worth a start to me.

Overall we will play better this season to less reward but the three points are what count, so well done KM and the team.

A note as well, aside from the penalty which I couldn't be sure on I thought the ref and assistants had a very good game today and deserved a mention.

I thought that the problem in the first 45 was that Skusy and little Lee are both "holding" midfielders and with Rose and Adomah both playing reasonably wide the centre circle really became Leicester's totally allowing Wellens to spray balls willy nilly? Mav was playing just behind Stead which really is not his preferred position? 2nd half Stead looked a lot happier with Pitman helping him out and noticeably Vassell got no where near as much ball in the second half as he had enjoyed in the first to the point where Sven hauled him off???

I thought Caulker was immense AGAIN, Rose needs to try and get a little more involved although when he took the ball down to the corner in the ninetieth minute and then waited for a Leicester player to challenge and kicked it straight at him to get a corner was superb.

Pitman deserves a run in a 4-4-2.

Just another thought how about giving David James the captains armband??? Plenty of experience and obviously well respected and just might give even greater organisation to what is a very young back four (McAllister not withstanding).

Certainly a game of two halves and earlier in the season and without Jamo's penalty save we certainly would not have got a point?

A lovely sight to see all those Foxes fans queuing to leave in the ninetieth minute.

WELL DONE YOU REDS

Was a definate pen Nibor. Not sure what James was playing at diving in like that. But then he saved it so levels it out.

Leicester should have been 3-0 up by HT but at least we battled and sometimes if you hang in there, you get lucky.

I still think we need to improve a fair bit to avoid a real scrap.

Fair comment but as the late great Bill Shankly used to say " if you are playing bad and winning there aint a lot wrong but if your playing well and losing you have prioblems."

Thought the defence was good. Lets face it you are never going to defend for 90 minutes against a team like Leicester without giving away at least half a dozen good chances.

3 Good points.

We started with a 4-2-3-1 actually. LJ and Skuse holding with the emphasis on Marv to get up and support Stead.

Skuse then changed with Marv. Still didnt work.

Once we got back to 4-4-2 players looked more comfortable and this is where the game was won.

Ribs, Caulker outstanding. Pitman looked a threat.

Same team and formation that finished the game today to start next saturday please Keith.

Keith can be a victim of his qualifications at times, trying to be too clever. Players at this level cannot cope with anything but basic formations and tactics imo (indeed neither can the Emgland team). Keep it simple please.:fingerscrossed:

It wasn't complicated as redcherryberry suggests, it was just wrong. We played 451, the variation in who of the midfield three attacked/defended was just their individual style.

Elliot charges down play breaking stuff up and has been trying to attack the ball in the box for a good half a dozen games now (they must be working him on it in training). LJ always likes to sit and play in front of the back two and Skuse sticks more to the traditional midfield box.

The problem was with Stead on his own up front and a lack of movement around him we just punted it, lost it and repeated that again and again. We made lots of errors we didn't need to because we had no good options.

At least KM recognised and corrected early enough.

It wasn't an intended 4-3-3, Stead was on his own up front and at times LJ and Cole made up a back six !

The first half was embarrassing, and any boss worth his salt would have worked that out after ten minutes
