BCAGFC
Thought he would have been perfect for us, young, strong, commanding centre back, a young Shaun Taylor..... Well he is off to Reading for 300k (clause in his contract) next week, they have beaten Newcastle United, Sunderland & QPR to him. Our scouting network must be the worst in the Championship and also quite a few L1 & L2 teams as well. Grrrrrrr..... BCAGFC

Rudolf Hucker
Now that Jamie Shore has linked up with Holloway to become head of youth for Blackpool we find ourselves with even more competition for the best players within our own City. A Premier League club has in effect bought a well-established, private football academy, kitted out its staff in tangerine and is actively scouting kids from the Bristol area, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. What long-term impact is that likely to have upon our chances of bringing in to our club the best local talent? And to think that we used to laugh at the pie eaters ... Don't tell me that you really believe we have a scouting network ....the utter tripe that we've signed over the past few years proves that we don't have one. FanaticRed
We should come in for Middlesbroughs Andrew Taylor! hes a left back looking to leave them, hes a realistic signing whos quality!
Lack of Action Man
Aren't clubs only allowed to sign kids from within a certain radius? No. yet City choose to. Which frankly is absurd. Rovers have a bristol based academy and a second academy in Warwickshire which scouts actively throughout the midlands. No disrespect but isn't our second academy just a partnership with the channel islands F.A. ? Hardly the best... Imo.

I know Jamie and this is an excellent opportunity for him. My son was a member of his academy JSSI and Jamie is a top bloke and this is ideal for him, Holloway and Blackpool. Holloway knows what he's got here and knows Jamie could bring quality in to Blackpool from Bristol and from his own set up at JSSI. MM

He is a sound left back but would he see us as a step up? Would have thought there would be CCC clubs higher up than us, and several struggling PL clubs who he would consider before us. As Rovers don't have a FA approved academy they fall outside the rules for academies. If you fall by the sea you can extend your radius into another area, which is why Southampton can have kids from Bristol.

Our current head scout is Dave Lee. A man who joined the club as a youth coach and had the scouting job thrown at him despite having zero experience of it. most clubs in the Championship and the Prem use scouting networks to help them find players. We are one of the few who decide its better to use an ex player with no experience instead.

No disrespect but isn't our second academy just a partnership with the channel islands F.A. ? Hardly the best... Imo. Rovers don't have an academy they have a centre of excellence. They also have a development centre near Newport. Kids under 16 must live within an hour of the team they are signed for. The big teams DO get round this by moving talented kids and there families to the clubs area and finding jobs etc for the parents. Blackpool are hardly in a position to do that though I would have thought?
arrytheb
Perhaps we were in for him but turned us down and the club hasn't made it public?! Perhaps we were in for loads of players who could have improved us but they turned us down and we've just kept it quiet.
