Coach
Daily Mail says we are battling it out with Sheff Weds for Portsmouth's "contract rebel"
GrahamC
I thought he was a holding midfielder? Certainly a "Hartley type", may be something in it.
FanaticRed
Hes a central midfielder not a defender! this would be a decent signing.

chipdawg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Hughes_(footballer) I think he's one of those at Portsmouth who they can't play because they can't afford the clause in his contract that kicks in after he plays another match. Reading wikipedia, i can only presume we're looking at him as a left back as we don't need another 'defensive midfielder'
Monkeh
he's on about 20 - 30 grand a week and is a due a pay-rise and a year extension if played again...I think its a non starter

Donald
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6687459,00.html VERY good player, but don't think he's what we need, never going to get among the goals, but does have experience and would be the general we need in midfield, however too similar maybe in sytle to Marv, Skuse and Cisse. Wouldn't be a bad signing, wouldnt knock it though, likewise with Michael Brown

Wouldn't be a bad signing, wouldnt knock it though, likewise with Michael Brown I don't think there is any doubt that Hughes wouldn't improve our goalscoring record himself as he hasn't scored a league goal in nine years! What he would do though is give us a player who could sit in front of the back four, take good set pieces and use the ball well, sound at all familiar? I'm not sure that either Elliott or Skuse are doing that for us at present, it would also possibly allow Marv to play further forward and hopefully contribute a few vital goals. For me the goalscoring, creative midfielder of proven Championship standard that we are after is obviously out of our price range (which is why I'd have liked us to gamble on Ryan Harley) and so getting in someone that we can afford and who will improve us in midfield is what we badly need to do this week. redcherryberry
He's simply a runner. Got enough of these type players. Busaky, Jordi Gomez, Howard or Tonge i wanna see. Players who can dictate and pick a pass.
chipdawg
Like i said earlier on, Perhaps Hughes is being viewed more as left back competition? That Sky Sports article mentions David Norris too; if he were available i wouldn't say no
