Football Supporters Federation - Safe Standing Petition

Go straight to the

petition here!

Some background here:

As you may know, there was a meeting in Westminster on Monday chaired by Bath MP Don Foster, who is currently trying to get a bill passed through parliament to allow clubs in the Premier League and the Championship to have the opportunity, if they wish, to create designated safe standing areas within their grounds using the German-style 'rail seats' that have a waist-high barrier integrated into their design (i.e. like that shown in the pic below).

This allows fans to stand in total safety, as - even with two rows of standing fans between each set of rails - every fan either has a barrier directly in front of them or directly behind them. They therefore cannot fall forward or be crushed from behind.

Present at that meeting on Monday were representatives of the Premier League, the Football League, the Football Licensing Authority, the police and the Football Supporters Federation (FSF). While most at the meeting conceded the safety argument, the politicians and the leagues are now saying that there is no evidence of demand for safe standing. It is therefore now incumbent on the proponents of safe standing to prove that there is demand.

To that end the FSF have launched a safe standing petition.

Whether you prefer to sit or stand, if you think fans should have the choice, that standing fans improve the atmosphere, that sitting fans will be less inconvenienced if standers all gather in one designated area or simply that the concept of standing in League One being allowed and in the Championship being banned is just plain daft, please sign the petition.

Please also circulate the link to everyone you know via e-mail, other forums and social media. The more signatures on that petition the harder the politicians and league officials will find it to say that "there is no demand".

Cheers!

Gotta be the way to go. I'd take safe standing at Ashton Gate over a new stadium at AV any day. Redevelop the East End and the Williams and we'd have 30k safe standing capacity and with 15k in the same space it'd still feel full. 15k in a 30k all seater stadium would be sh1te though.
