Many of you may not know this but the co author of the book " SAS Operation Storm" and SAS soldier that took part in this battle is Roger Cole and he is originally from Knowle West !!!!!! SAS veteran Roger Cole is leading a campaign for his fallen comrade - Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba - to receive a posthumous Victoria Cross. For over an hour Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba - a Fijian - single-handedly manned a 25-pounder field gun, which normally required a crew of four, and continued firing it even after being wounded.

Sergeant Labalaba, received only a 'Mention in Despatches', the lowest honour possible, for his amazing bravery. Roger Cole has written the book - as pictured below - which aims to redress the injustice of the shabby treatment meted out to the heroes of that day. Another of Roger Cole's fallen comrades was Irish Medic Trooper Tommy Tobin and he received no honour at all even after running half a mile across open ground under fire from hundreds of enemy to reach wounded comrades needing medical treatment. The two men died at Mirmat from their injuries.

Read it for yourself, "OPERATION STORM" is the inside story - told by those who took part - of the greatest secret war in SAS history. The tipping point, Mirbat, South Oman, 19 July 1972 is one of the least-known yet most crucial battles of modern times.

If the SAS had been defeated at Mirbat, the Russian and Chinese plan for a communist foothold in the Middle East would have succeeded, with catastrophic consequences for the oil-hungry West.......
