bert tann
...history will show that the downward spiral started the moment Coppell told Lansdown he was quitting... This is absolutely correct and if you step back for a moment you can see why. What did a man like Mr Lansdown want from the game ? Glamour, prestige and proof that he could achieve the same high status in the world of football as he had in finance. Steve Coppell and David James were meant to be the begining but he soon realised there were different rules operating in our national sport and success was not guaranteed with the seed capital he was prepared to risk. Brace yourselves for the abandonment of Ashton Vale and get ready to Buckle up with a new manager from across town.
Jesus
Brought in bloody millions of players though, didn't he!? didn't have any real financial constraints at the club did he? Millen was part of that though
Mr Popodopolous
...Lansdown losing face and panicking will have far greater consequences in the long run IMO... Which decision in particular?
Red Exile
Which decision in particular? appointing Millen...should have taken time and looked to appoint a manager capable of delivering on the strategy of rebuilding for a push to the Prem - which is what we were told he'd chosen Coppell to head. Instead he made a strategic handbrake turn with a rookie manager. We were told there were many candidates for the job when Coppell got it...it was hard to believe that Millen was the best of the rest even then...impossible to believe that now.
