Red Robin
24 hours on. Two sides that deserve to be where they are. Cov should have been out of site, they missed three sitters. Us we would not have scored playing 4-5-1 if we had been there all night. No penetration, just sideways football, and backwards football-reminded me of the millen period. The 4-5-1 is not causing the opposition enough problems, especially with Adomah of his game the last two or three games. When he does not play well 4-5-1 does not work. Regards Maynard up front on his own, it simply is not his game. If the manager wants to play that then Stead is the man for that position,he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game. We have to get two up front pitman and stead for me at least we give the opposition defence something to think about. Then we must put a team behind them that can do the business. I would Give this a try play the following (James) (Nyatanga). (Wilson). (Mcgivern) (cisse) (Adomah). (Elliot). (Killa). (Pearson) (Pitman). (Stead) This would allow cisse to move back and forth helping the defence and adding the extra outlet to the midfield. My opinion this would cause more penatration going forward. Fiale
We had 57% of the football and 19 shots on target (to Coventry's 5) the game was on a plate for us, we just did not have the surgical finishing to get the points. There was nothing wrong with the formation (we did not concede until moving to a 4-4-2) we just need players capable o putting the ball in the net.... Elliott and Adomah are capable of chipping in several goals a season but other than that we rely on one striker who cannot seem to hit the net consistently this season. We are also missing goals from our defence (i.e. Carey, McAllister even Stewart have scored from the CB/LB position).
Ron
If we played that formation yesterday it would have been suicidal. The amount of times Coventry stretched us by having wingers that hugged the touch line, why don't we just get rid of our full backs as a response. TRL
If we played that formation yesterday it would have been suicidal. The amount of times Coventry stretched us by having wingers that hugged the touch line, why don't we just get rid of our full backs as a response. What full backs? Hunt never will play, ribs out on loan, McAllister injured. What does it leave us? Skuse centre midfield/ centre back. Mcgivern really a centre back. Tango really a centre back. Fontaine really a centre back. Carey really a centre back. Spence really a centre back So we have two specialist right backs, one out on loan, one who apparently is being over looked. 1 specialist left back who is out injured. Can anyone tell me what the hell Millen was doing not at the very least getting specialist players in these positions on loan, rather than people who can play there. And can someone tell me why mcinnes came out and said players have to play in their correct positions, yet both right backs are overlooked? I hope he is looking for a left back and right back, not just a striker in the transfer window. It is ridiculous that a club can be run like this. Ron
Nice theory, but with a few gaping holes. Our best right-back in recent history joined us as a centre-midfielder and made RB his own, while McGivern is very much a left-back.
TRL
Nice theory, but with a few gaping holes. Our best right-back in recent history joined us as a centre-midfielder and made RB his own, while McGivern is very much a left-back. Mcgivern is a centre back, as stated by man city fans, who has been moved across and is still learning the left back trade. Bradley Orr has nothing to do with the current squad. And also goes completely against mcinnes statement that players should play in their preferred positions. Well, we have two, both fit who's place is being taken by a midfielder. All I am doing is pointing out what was said. Personally I think skuse is better in midfield, and gets a hard press on here, he has the attributes to be a right back, he just doesn't know the role well enough. Big difference to Orr who wasn't great when he started there, but grew into it at a lower level than championship, before making the role his own at championship level. I don't think we are in the right frame of mind or position to be tinkering or experimenting with specialist positions
