Who Will Be Nicky Maynard's Replacement?

With Maynard on the way out, and DelBoy coming out saying he is in the market for a new striker......who do we think Mcinnes is looking at? And who do we think are potential striker signings...????

We have been linked with Sandaza.....yet he has hardly set the world alight anywhere he has been.....surely we will be in for a more experienced, proven striker?

Thoughts???

dont no if it is a rumour or whether we are chasing him but ched evans of sheffield united is a name we are linked with as a replacement for maynard

It was posted on the rumours site - I would have thought Sandaza was a more viable option as DMc knows him well.

Sheffield United badboy Ched Evans is set for a return to the Championship with Bristol City after Nicky Maynard has been put on the transfer list. Bristol City see him as a cheap alternative that is to be rewarded for his hard work at Sheffield United.

They paid 3m to sign him from Man City in 2009, surely his price cant have dropped by that much in 3 years as he's still only 23, cant see us signing him to be honest.

Ched Evans isn't better than what we have. I very much doubt He would command a fee anywhere near to what they paid for Him. Until this season Evans has struggled to live up to the huge fee. If Del thinks He can add something to our team then that is fine with Me though! We also need to be realistic of our situation and unless Del can work some magic then it's unlikely we will get a player of Maynards caliber in to replace Him.

If this were QI, the answer would be:-

"Nobody knows".

P.S. We already have the 'replacement' - BP. The question is whom to play along side, is it not?

But he is, his one good season means not only can he **** over my club but he could spunk on my mothers face with no repercussion.

Irony??

Like the passion, though, and the porn reference .........

P.S. Now we know Colin Sexstone does post on here!

Yeah! Better than Lord Walsh of Bedminster??doh.gif

At least we got a few quid for Walshy, when he went to play for that foreign club! Fiji Rangers - Icelandic Premier League South.

I thought that was Premier League North along with David Seal

Maynard has had one good season people say, maynard is crap people say. Maynard should have signed a contract so we could of sold him people say.

Can some explain to me where the logic of any of this is? If he is crap and had one good season surely he is worth nothing and no one would want to buy him? If that is correct, just as well his contract is out and we can get him off the pay roll eh?

None of them can be 100% sure about what went on behind the scenes TRL, yet apparently He has taken the club on a ride! Most hated player ever!! Has anyone stopped to consider other things!? For example how do we not know that Millen promised Him certain signings or certain things that didn't happen!? Yeah of course He should have told us earlier He wanted out, but at the end of the day He wants to play at the highest level possible! Whether He is up to it is another matter altogether!

I'm sure if He did go to Leicester everyone would have been even more annoyed at the fact He joined another championship club etc etc! If He is so crap why are some so angry about the situation!? If He is so 'crap' then why is there a problem with Him wanting to leave!? If He is so 'crap' then why does He still get in our team even though He doesn't want to extend His contract? Surely that says more about our team then, than Maynard!

There wasn't a bid from any other club other than Leciester and He did'n t want to make a sideways move in His career so declined, and because He wants to play the top level!!

Do people not think we are all a little annoyed about the situation!? Even so we all need to be realistic, what do people expect Him to do sign an extension just so we as a club can get more money for Him!? Has anyone stopped to think that maybe as an ambitious player (the kind of ambition You want from players to play at the top level unlike Hunt,JCR,Stewart etc) that He genuinely wants to test Himself at the very top!?

Robert Lewandowski would be a good replacement, hes 6'0 so would fit into what del is looking for, hes got a decent goal ratio too. i dont know if Dortmund would let him go though? dont think hes getting much game time however.

Pitman was a key player last season when Maynard was out, scored some good goals that eventually kept us clinging onto this league. Stead needs his chance too, having yet to have a chance to properly prove himself. However, I think that Clarkson isn't up to the job, as many of us have known for a while. His goal against Leicester last season was his only truly good moment.

Please tell me this is a joke? He's fighting for the Bundesliga and is going to cost atleast 5M. From being in a side that was playing Champions League football and fighting with Bayern for the Bundesliga to going into a championship relegation scrap? No chance.

Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield is a player I would like to see replace Maynard. Have watched him a few times this season at the Galpharm and the lad has real quality and knows how to score. He scored his 20th league goal of the season today and the scary thing is in my opinion he is still improving. However, I don't think we will be able to afford him, Lee Clark will not want to sell his most valuable asset for less than 4-5 million and I think we will be lucky to get that for Maynard with his contract being almost up.

Not a chance he will come to us :)

Huddersfield are looking for 4m+ which we will never pay for a player. Billy Sharp for 1.85m would be ideal.

Don't think there would be much of an attraction for Billy Sharp to jump from one relegation dogfight to another in all honesty. I know Jordan Rhodes won't be coming to Ashton Gate, but he is the sort of player we could do with. Having interviewed Lee Clark myself a few weeks ago, I know that he wants big money for his star striker. He was quite confident that Rhodes would remain a Huddersfield player after the window shuts, stating it would take an astronomical offer for them to even consider selling him.

I agree it would be very hard to convince Billy to join City if you dont ask, you dont get. I'm hoping Del has a striker from abroad in his sights (not Scotland) as english players are very overpriced.

Exactly.

All these people who think we "need a replacement" - why do they think we signed pitman??! to just end his career here before its even started?

What a waste of 800k

Pitman's time is now.

Pitman will need to step up. We will need another striker if/when Maynard leaves though. Even with Maynard we only have 3 strikers good enough for the championship imo.

Ofcourse we will need another striker.. Pitman can only operate in a 4-4-2 and Del isn't going to play that for the whole of next season is he.. We need a quality striker to partner him in a 4-4-2 and play alone in the 4-5-1. How people think just by having Pitman is okay is just silly..

Yeah agree mate. As much as I like Brett I don't think He can operate as a lone striker. We would need more than just Him and Stead. Be interesting to see who Del can recruit in this window.
