Judge Roughneck
weather permitting. James Taylor scored big for the lions and deserves a place at number 6 in place of Morgan/Bopara. The rest of the team picks itself, but Strauss needs some runs as his captaincy can't mask low scores for too much longer.
Lew-T
I would like to see Jos Butler in the side, don't rate Ravi or Morgan, there one day players. Rory Hamilton Brown or Tom Maynard would be worth a shout aswell

Would like to see Taylor get the WI series, only reason not to give it to him is the fact he has yet to score big for Notts in his first season in Division

screech
Ok I know people are big on their cricket, I'm not a fan at all, so I will try and be kind here. a cricket test is what football call a friendly. There is nothing riding on the outcome so why do people get excited about them?

Lrrr
goes towards the international rankings which are the main thing as there is no world test tournament (at the moment) so the claim of being #1 in the world is the biggest thing. I would like to see Taylor in the side, I could see them pushing Bell to 6 as he's done it before and Taylor slot in at 5. Jos Buttler is a way off the test team and has better candidates infront of him, arguably Kieswetter is #2 due to his international experience and Bairstow is third. Buttler should be in the one day and T20 sides though as he is rediculously good in shorter formats of the game. Nothing needs to be changed in the bowling department tbh apart from any forced changes through injury.

There is nothing riding on the outcome so why do people get excited about them? Because it goes back to ideals, where you played sport to win, not for money. Simple as that. Like it has already been said, it is the pinnacle of your career, and to be classed as no 1 is what all teams and sportsmen should dream to achieve. Not like football, and Roy keanes of this world, who refused to play for their country.

Admin Ian M Posted May 18, 2012 Admin Report Share Posted May 18, 2012 Really pleased for Strauss who has done a good job as captain in progressing this England side. You can see how much that ton meant to him & although he said otherwise in his interview, he was clearly under pressure to score big runs. Now will he fall early tomorrow (as he's done a few times following a break in play) or go on to complete what would be his first double century for England? At the moment he is the only member of England's top 5 batsmen not to have made one & it would be great if he could join the list. I can remember growing up watching English batting line-up after batting line-up collapse for pitiful scores. Although the bowlers, rightly, get a lot of credit at the moment, it's still a long time since we had a batting line-up this good. Batsman; Highest Score Strauss 177 Cook 294 Trott 226 Pietersen 227 Bell

EmissionImpossible
The media are making the West Indies attack out to be worse than it is but they have made a mistake in selecting that new guy ahead of Shillingford. If they had Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo and Jerome Taylor the West Indies would be much more competitive. But with the current West Indian board and the lure of the IPL they are severely hampered.
Guest
If its a bit overcast today then things could be tricky. You only have to look at the Surrey/Somerset game where a flat track suddenly turned into unplayable yesterday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing Barstow

West Indies didn't get any until the final over but it was clear from the dark footholes on the wicket that there was moisture underfoot.
Super
Absolute disgrace that Strauss was under pressure as the media said. We have become the top test team in the world for god sake, to which his fantastic captaincy has been key.

Yes and Swann if needed will get help from those footholes and if the West Indies had played Shillingford, they would have a lot more control, even in this innings. Then their quicks would have been more effective.

Judge Roughneck
Two thirds of the way there. I still see no compelling argument for not picking Taylor, though having started with Bairstow they must give him a third go before realising he could be a one day specialist, or just a bit early. He's not looked comfortable against pace and bounce, South Africa could destroy his test career the way the aussies did for Lathwell.

Agree that Bairstow should not play against SA unless he shows improvement in the Third Test, whilst I originally thought Taylor should have been given the oppurtunity against the Windies he has hardly set the world on fire this season (Lions game apart). Maybe Prior bats at 6 and Finn comes into the team as part of a 5-man attack?
EmissionImpossible
I think its a bit quick to judge Bairstow, I have always been for Ravi at number 6 but I dont think it would follow selection policy if they were to ditch Bairstow over two bad games.
