screech
Just wondering whether the club could help their cause a little more by announcing they have a £15m transfer budget to push for promotion this season? I know we don't have this budget available but, if you were a decent player on a free transfer this summer and had a few clubs showing an interest in you, why would you choose a side that appears to be tightening it's purse strings after a close call of relegation the previous season, against a club that has gone public about throwing lots of money at a promotion push? Surely it could only help with negotiations in the free market? After all, we seem to be able to pay well enough, showing ambition publically may just tempt a few of the better targets to sign. And when they ask for a decent wage, and get told to do one.... Game over, the charade is exposed.
screech
And when they ask for a decent wage, and get told to do one.... Game over, the charade is exposed. We pay very well, I don't think that has let us down in the past.
Brislingwood Red
Maybe teams would inflate transfer prices with that knowledge.
numbeast
Making a statement like that would ensure any player we're interested in and their agent would up their demands both wage and signing on fee. plus an player we're prepared to pay a fee for would have their price doubled. I see your point regarding raising our profile after last seasons debacle but the downsides outweigh the positives.
TRL
We pay very well, I don't think that has let us down in the past. Sl intimated we wouldn't anymore. Saying that it could be the normal sound bite bs we get every year
Nibor
All something like that will do is put transfer fees up. It will make no difference who comes to the table to talk wages, their agents will do that anyway.
screech
Maybe teams would inflate transfer prices with that knowledge. It was mainly aimed at what appears to be where we are shopping, in the frees and loan market. Considering the rumoured wages we were prepared to pay to Maynard for example was around the £20k a week figure, most players would be in range. Tins
Look at the Carroll transfer. Newcastle knew Liverpool had £50million and needed a new no.1 striker so they could demand practically any fee they wanted.
