In the second division back Ayr United who spanked Champions League qualifiers Motherwell four nil today. Otherwise I would say that you'll do pretty well with that accumulator. Wolves have made some up and down signings but still have a pretty strong squad, MK Dons are less likely to bottle League 1 than Sheffield United. Depends on the bookies' terms. Used to be the team had to finish top 3 but most (many?) offer top 4 now for an e/w win. Basically you pay double your stake and if each of your selections finish in the top 3 (or 4) then divide all of the odds by 4 and then multiply them together for the winnings. eg say your e/w selection was Chelsea, Leeds, MK Dons, Fleetwood & Forest Green their prices are 5/1, 12/1, 9/1, 7/1 & 9/1. You could put £10 on the win-only & £10 on the e/w. If all won (Chelsea hah!) then your return would be £624000. However, if they all just finish in the top 3(or 4 depending on bookie) the return would be £2614 give or take a few pence. Therefore I will be chucking a few pounds on a speculative selection of clubs with longer odds that I believe stand a good chance of finishing top 3 if not actually winning their league. In my above example Chelsea would pose a fairly sizeable risk as I believe the Manchester clubs have the top 2 places sewn up. You therefore have Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs all competing for 1 (maybe 2) place. I know they've had the whole palava regarding the kit and logo change but they are starting to build a fantastic team at this level... You select it on the payslip if I remember correctly. I may of course be wrong with my interpretation (as I am not a bookie by trade) but it is how I have always understood it. This year I'm going to back teams for promotion rather than a place, I've had my fingers burned too many times! At this earlier stage (as there are still a lot of signings to be made) my selections for promotion would be: Championship: Bolton, Blackpool - I'm also going to keep an eye on Blackburn they have made some alright signings and whilst I don't rate Steve Keen should he get the boot early in the season and the board appoint a decent manager then they could make a run for promotion League 1: MK Dons/Preston/Swindon - I'm also going to keep an eye on things at Brentford and Notts County and will have a small bet on yeovil who were 25/1 the other day for promotion on Skybet. League 2: Chesterfield/Southend/Gillingham and i hate to say it but the r****s are in with a shout. Aldershot could be worth a small bet as they went on a decen run towards the end of the season I seem to remember. I don't do Premier League anymore as it gets boring and the odds are too short.
