Andrew Strauss Retires

Quoted as saying it has nothing to do with KP, which I'm sure none of us believe for one second

Gutted for him to go in this way, he won in Oz, got us to no 1 in the world - and it all disappears in a shit storm. KP, Broad, Swann, Bresnan, Prior all need to have a damn good look at themselves. They've let the man down in a big, big way

On saying that, the next batch of autobiographies will be a fantastic read!

Thank you Andrew Strauss!

Good decision, he's not going to improve and leaves a great legacy.

Hope I'm wrong but think Cook could struggle as Captain, Swanny would've been a great choice as loves the limelight and thinks about the game.

Thought his press conference told you everything about the bloke. Very dignified. Sure he'll stay in the game in some form of capacity. Top bloke who gave us many great memories over the past few years.

great captain good batsman fantastic fielder will be missed if he doen't make the england team in the near future like Vaughen

It was the correct time to do it however he has been drasticly out of form for quite a while and for me I only think he's been selected because he's england captain in recent tests

He can walk away from the job with his head held high

Wow - either you're pissed, or know nothing about cricket, or possibly both

Would be a terrible captain

Cook was always going to be the logical replacement.

What they do with the batting line up is anyone's guess. I'd expect Trott to move up but do they then bring in Bresnan at 7 and push the order up or bring in a new #3

If KP is staying in the wilderness then Bell at 3 , Bairstow at 4.

Compton is a ready made #3 and I don't believe he's a one season wonder, having watched him

over last 2-3 seasons he is now top player. Do we want another SA born player though?

Wonder what the future holds for Strauss, doesn't strike me as one who'll go into media. Coach perhaps

100 caps, 21 hundreds, 3 Ashes wins, 2 Ashes wins as captain. And even one game for Somerset! A legend.

More than that though he is a thoroughly decent bloke and gave us a team to be truly proud of.

Who to replace him at the top of the order is a tricky one. For the India tour we can easily just move Trott up to open and bring in either an extra middle order player or someone like Samit Patel to bat at 7 and bowl a bit, but when we get back to England we do need to find a specialised opener. Joe Root seems to be leading the race at the moment.

Played cricket for 40 yrs so know a bit about it and a bit about the history. Just think Cookie will crumble under media pressure after a few bad results plus he doesn't strike me as having an original thought about him. They made KP captain do I don't see why Swanny couldn't do the job, about time a bowler did it !

Look what happened with KP though, anyone with an ego that large, and Swann is in that category, should go nowhere near the role

Get what you're saying about Cook though, I do worry that maybe he is the complete opposite personality wise. All seems a mess after striving so hard to get to number 1

Real shame for England. Truely fantastic captain, batsman and role model. Will be sorely missed.

Number 1 looks a problem now..... Bell to move up with Pietersen coming back in at 4, Bairstow at 5?

Would like to see Compton brought into contention.

I personally hope that KP never gets near any England squad again. Great talent but too much trouble and very disruptive.
