fka dagest
I like it a lot. A very memorable moment cast in bronze: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19748545 What other football moments (local, national & international) would you like to see cast in bronze? David James flying through the air? Terry Butcher & blood stained shirt?

It's like having a statue of Cantona's Kung fu kick. Odd.

Anglia Red
Nothing personal but find "Iconic" is one of the most overused words at the present time. Just a bit fed up hearing everything described as iconic. Actually started counting how many times I heard it every day during the olympics It's driving me mad! gazareth
I look forward to seeing a statue of Gerard Lavin outside Cabot Circus, belting the ball into the Madejski Stadium crowd.

Quite correct - this is not iconic to the definition of the word it is simply memorable. Although the Olympics did have a lot of Iconic moments at the time but the longevity seems to be dwindling fast.

Oh dear, I'm sorry this thread was meant to be a bit of tongue in cheek fun, not a debating ground on the semantics of words for pedants. Obviously Zidane's statue doesn't catch him at his best, but if you asked most people what stuck in their mind from that World Cup you can pretty much guarantee almost every one would remember the head but. As for 'iconic', well, Dictionary.com gives the following definition '(of memorial sculptures, esp those depicting athletes of ancient Greece)having a fixed conventional style' http://dictionary.re...m/browse/iconic Anyway, what about Warnock's rage at the infamous disallowed goal? Fair enough, I cant really do fun on a Friday my brain is to scrambled from lack sleep, the definition I had was: Depicting a victorious athlete in a conventional style. https://www.google.c...iw=1920&bih=
