JammyOne
I was just thinking, which doesn't happen that often. Both Bristol teams are struggling at the moment and both clubs are low on crowd numbers. If there was only one team in Bristol or City and the gas were to merge, where do you think we would be right now?

About the same, championship level, both teams would lose existing fans, but maybe gain others. It may make investment into 1 team a little easier for any potential suitor, and it would most certainly make finding area to build a ground easier as you would not be worried about locating the ground within the demographic of North or South Bristol. What you need is Arabian or Russian oil investing in your club if you want to progress, otherwise, definitely for the next few years, most clubs will be also rans
BCAGFC
Exactly where we are now, Gas have nothing to contribute & SL wouldn't put any extra cash in. Bristol football fans will only follow successful teams as highlighted when we reached the old Division 1 & when either club reaches a play off/cup final. CardiffBlackLabel
If there always had been one club in Bristol, you could probably presume they would have been as successful as someone like Leeds United.

Agreed. Personally, I think there is no future in two pro(I use the term loosely in the case of the gas!) teams in Bristol.
Sargent Pepper
What would happen in the clubs were to merge? I'd have a lot of Saturdays free
Rich
If there always had been one club in Bristol, you could probably presume they would have been as successful as someone like Leeds United. Maybe not quite as successful, as Leeds has a larger population, is more working class and as such, more likely to have people interested in attending football matches. Having said that, didn't there used to be a Leeds City professional club, back in the fifties/sixties

riddlesdown red
Well in all fairness if Rovers were to get relegated there could only be one team in Bristol. As Luton have shown with probably bigger crowds than Rovers that there is no guarantee of getting back in the league. I believe Luton are into the 4th season having misssed out twice in recent play offs. Personally I dont want to see Rovers relegated but for anyone who wants only one team in Bristol then Rovers in the Blue square is the way forward and without promotion like teams like Barrow Workington Darlington they could just fade away. Jon atyeo is my dad
I honestly wouldn't be against it! Football is changing so much it almost seems impossible to see either side in the championship in 10 years time! Both sides are crying out for new stadiums one stuck in a tin can one in pop up tents! We need income and that comes from higher attendances as stated above some will refuse to go but the more realistic fans who understand the financial side will see this as a potential great opportunity and possibly the only way to reach a new stadium and Premier League dream! Of course if we do get Ashton vale then the gas can poke it ha!!
