Smokey
A few of my mates have been discussing which goal was better, Ibrahimovic against England or Mexes goal against Anderlecht. What do you guys n gals think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlCRHUlJe90
Carey 6
Ibrahimovic goal wouldn't have went in if the keeper was there. Mexes is better

Eddie Hitler
Of those Mexes, I thought of this belter from Trevor Sinclair, though I didn't realise it was 15 years ago!
Gazred
Ibrahimovic gets an extra point for technique, but the Mexes hit is a better goal. A CB has got no right scoring a goal like that. Stunned the keeper. Brilliant.

Scored at the same end and almost the exact same spot as Maynards wonder goal!
formerly known as ivan
No contest. Zlatans goal was the greatest ever scored. How high he jumped, the connection and technique and at the end of it to hit the target. No goal will ever be scored like that again

TRL
Mexes, as good as ibra's was, the goal keeper made it easier for him. Not that it was easy, but the goal was empty with no defenders in the way as such.
RobArnold10
Mexes all day long. Had a lot more to do, controlled well and still had a keeper to beat. Ibrahimovic pretty much had to just hit the target.
Nibor
Mexes. I must be the only one in the world who didn't think Ibrahimovic's was quite worth the press it got. It was very good but it was essentially a straightforward overhead kick at an empty net. He did well to hit the target and it was precocious but I didn't understand why people were calling it the goal of the season or in some cases the best they've ever seen. Mexes had a much more difficult task since he had to beat the keeper, which meant keeping it flatter and hitting it harder.

simon uk
The mixes goal is a great hit, but the chest control which set up the volley made the strike possible, for an international footballer. Ibrahimovics goal, on the volley is just unreal, and I can't see we will ever see anything like it again.
pride of the west
Zlatans is better. Mexes type goal happens about 5 times a season and ive even seen you tube clips of non league players doing it. Ive never seen anything like the goal against england. Always Believesham
The mixes goal is a great hit, but the chest control which set up the volley made the strike possible, for an international footballer. Ibrahimovics goal, on the volley is just unreal, and I can't see we will ever see anything like it again. I agree, without wanting to embark on an assesment and dissertation on overhead kicks, if you have space and the ball under control, it is alot easier (emphasising the er) to execute. A ball that had dropped out the air or is crossed is alot more difficult to hit so Ibra wins it for me. Takes nothing away from Mexes, impecable movement, Mexes could do that again, Ibrahimovic will never replicate his goal. As for Sinclair, that's a hit and looks like he left it late to decide to do it. 1. Ibra 2. Sinclair 3. Mexes

How can an overhead kick be "precocious"?
chipdawg
Zlatan's goal was all about speed of thought and improvisation where as Mexes' was, as spectular as it was, a 'hit and hope'; he couldn't do that again if he tried 100 times. Ibra's improvisation just elevates it for me
SecretSam
Well, impressive though Ibrahimovich's technique was - and I'm a big fan of his - the Mexes goal was better. Players round him, he's a defender, etc etc. The fact that it was 1 in a million is irrelevant. In fact, it makes it more special.
Bryans Left Peg
Purely because Ibra didn't have the opportunity to control the ball himself, he just had to judge his leap etc perfectly and the fact that his foot was 8 feet off the ground upon connection with the ball!.. I'd say they draw.

Gazred
Rooney's was better than all of them. If it was best goal ever scored off of the shin, you would be correct.
SecretSam
Rooney's was better than all of them. Well, personally I think that's bollocks, he shinned it but I'll let it go Bob Taylor's vs Brum back in '89 was better
Ison
Would it be wrong to throw Cisse's vs Chelsea last season into the mix and suggest it beats all of them?
