February 13Th 1988....

BS4 on Tour...

Tonight's fixture brings back great memories for me of what a proper day out at an away game was like!

February 13th 1988 Brighton & HA vs Bristol City – Division Three!

* Shrugged off complaints from girlfriend about going to the footy on Valentine’s Day weekend!

* I’d just got my 1st car – Riviera Blue Ford Escort Mark 3 complete with spoiler and steering wheel the size of a 10p piece!

* Car full of cidered up Bristolians staggered off down the motorway – I ignored warning light which illuminated on the dashboard after an hour or so!

* P*ssing down with rain and dark all day and a howling wind as well!

* Brighton playing in a Tesco carrier bag kit!

* Half time 3-0 down and soaked to the skin in The Goldstone in an enclosure on the side by a floodlight!

* My mate Blackie from Sunderland came all that way to see the game and wondered what the h*ll he was doing there!

* Our keeper (John Vaughn?) was unable to kick the ball out of his area due to the fierce wind!

* Got it back to 3-2 somehow - Stevie Neville on fire!

* Best song from the bored and wet away hoardes “The linesman’s got a h*rd-on – la la la la…” (ad infinitum!)

* Lost 3-2

* Broke down after 20 mins of the return journey

* Rang the RAC – splashed by the Bristol City team coach whilst waiting on the hard shoulder – soaked again!

* Was told by the RAC that I had to drive back to Bristol at 40 mph max to avoid breaking down again!

* Got in at 3am!

Loved every minute!!!!

Happy Days! Brings a tear to the eye!

wrong thread

Sorry if you think my OP was in the wrong thread.

Did i miss the 'share memories of proper away days....' thread?

And when i posted it at 12.21pm today i didn't notice a match thread for tonight's game, because there wasn't one!

So i'm not sure where you expected my post to appear??

Anyway, there's a game on tonight so.........
