sunningdalered
I completely understand why there are constant references to these wins on the forum - but we really have to stop referencing them as some sort of evidence that this team / squad has what it takes to play quality, consistent, winning football, if only we can rediscover the form shown in these two matches. These two games were matches 2 and 3 of the season - when the majority of teams are still in the process of either settling in new players or still completing their transfer business. They cannot, therefore, be taken as any sort of benchmark for any teams likely season-long fortunes. Individual errors by both these sides also contributed heavily to our success. As Ted has commented on a different topic (message to the players), and I agree, the best thing the team (and DM) can do now is forget their current league position, points won / lost / thrown away, defensive mistakes, previous poor performances, terrible home record etc etc, and just play each game on a completely one-off basis. Take the game to the opposition, win their individual battles, press high-up the pitch, show for their teamates, and play with the confidence (or even arrogance) that must have scored them a professional contract in the first place. Time to let it go regarding these two early results, and face the battle in front of us NOW.
