He should be going out of his way and approaching people. Indeed, he should have approached people. I remember that there was no shortage of people representing the club asking me face to face to sign a petition to help get us moved to Ashton Vale. Dave L Posted January 6, 2013 Report Share Posted January 6, 2013 For the record. Myself and Kevin Smith (commercial director) travelled up to Blackburn on coach 3. It was good to see some familiar faces on the coach and talk to some new people too. We had a great chat with two lads in front of us and did a footie quiz with them. We mixed and chatted to fans from one of the other coaches at the motorway services. We arrived at Blackburn, found the Coach and Horses, had two pints and a really good chat with several supporters in there. Then off to the ground where I had the best chips I've had anywhere for ages and spent more time chatting with fans who came up and said hello. Then watched the game which was very very disappointing to say the least. Talked to more fans at half time and after the game, then back on coach 3, where we finished the quiz with the two lads. Didn't catch their names but enjoyed their company. Football and result aside, I had a really good day. It was great to travel with fellow fans and be in a position where I could talk to people. Everyone I spoke to (some I approached, some approached me) was friendly, which is exactly what I would expect from fellow City fans. Sorry I didn't get to talk to all 500 or so, but I reckon I must have chatted to 40 - 50 during the course of the day, and I really enjoyed myself and will definitely do the same again soon. Thanks to those who took the time to come to talk face to face. I would welcome the chance to talk to any fan who wants to talk to me, any time. Come and say hello. I was on coach 3 as well Dave and do wonder if you and Kevin could've been a bit more proactive in talking to supporters. No one on the coach batted an eyelid at the fact you two were there and I suspect most don't actually know who you are or your role, and this is even more relevant to Kevin. My mate who's been going to City home and away for 20 years certainly had no clue who either of you were. As you are club officials would name badges not of been appropriate? I was expecting maybe a wander up and down the coach introducing yourselves and having a friendly chat? If you want to immerse yourself in the supporters then this may be a way of doing it...look at the chaps who run the coaches, they are good at this and all have a good reputation. I saw you and Kevin at the services stop standing around not making effort to talk to the 100 odd City fans present. It was you who said in the other thread that you were keen to hear the views of supporters and I think the reality is that you are going to have to initiate the discussions not wait for people to come up to you. We went Golden Cup before the game so didn't see you from that point on until coach home but I suspect a pub is a better place to socialise so well done on that. To be honest a lot of my disillusionment with football and City at the moment is beyond your control I feel, so I didn't have any inkling to talk to you yesterday. It is important to the club right now, Dave is the figure head to a vitally important offering of an olive branch from club to support in an (belated, admittedly) attempt to bridge the gap. It's one of the biggest talking points in recent times, for the club. It is important, and to not know about something that is going on RIGHT NOW is surely just as criminal as not knowing about 1909. So even if had chance to drink by time parked up and got to ground it's close to kick off. Son plays footy Saturday mornings so some days cutting it fine so even stopping in services isn't possible, but services prices are actually cheaper than the prices at Ashton gate now. This brings me on to potd prices, can't buy in advance for if son ko at 10.30 can't make game and with weather as it is games get called off on morning of game, why have I got to pay a fiver or even more because I can't commit till the day. Ask my dad who Dave L is, he will say the bloke up the road with the same name. Ask my blind mate, he has no clue, never having heard him on tv or radio. Dave although quite well known to forum frequenters and some fans going to the gate, is not the well known bloke you seem to think he is. I told my dad he is the half time announcer. His reply, really, I don't know one half time announcer from the next. For those who do not buy a program, or do not use the internet, well they won't have a clue who Dave is. They will more likely know who beanhead is, as he really is the voice of Bristol City, being the voice on the radio. I like a bit of aussie banter, Jordan you gallah! Maybe some will start to know who he is if he continues travelling with them to away games and roving around the ground. Maybe doing some announcing from the stands, but there maybe some H&S malarky that stops that. Edit. Not sure I attacked Dave on this thread. Whenever I've sent him an email he has replied, and he has gone out of his way to help me with various projects. No excuses at all if you want to get in contact, he's a TOP MAN.
