Redtucks
A history of Clark’s Pies: Clark’s Pies were first made in Cardiff in 1913 by founder Janet Maud (Mary) Clark in her shop at Donald Street in Roath. World War One saw production halt but making recommenced in the early 1920s, with the thriving business relocated to larger premises at Paget Street in Grangetown. Mary’s seven children all followed in their mother’s footsteps, launching bakeries in Cardiff, Newport, Gloucester, Bristol, Swindon and Reading. The Granegtown-based bakery was founded in 1955 by Mary Clark’s Grandson Dennis Dutch, whose father, Arthur Dutch, was the man behind the iconic CLARPIE trademark in 1934. This trademark feature can still be found stamped into the bottom of every original Clark’s Pie today. Though many of the businesses have now closed, today, Clark’s Pies is still going strong in Cardiff, with the last original Clark’s Pies bakery thriving at its current location at Bromsgrove Street.
