Class player. One of our best, over the years.

Aye good lad. Did well by the club as well, by signing a new contract even though he knew Barnsley were interested.

For me in the past 30 years he is in joint 2nd with Brennan. Scotty just pips them both.

Class act, my favourite player when I first started watching City as a kid. Curiously his replacement went on to become my new favourite as well.

We have certainly been lucky with left backs.

From 89 Bailey Scott Edwards(part time) Munro, Barnard, Bell, Brennan, Hill Mcallister, Cunningham.

Worst there as I can see it, Mcallister And lets be fair, he wasn't bad, just had a lot to live up to.

I'd put Macca behind only Brennan, Scott & Barnard, I haven't seen enough of Cunningham yet.

Darren Barnard is comfortably the best left back I've seen wear the Barnsley red in my 25 years at Oakwell. He was absolute class, and scored more than his fair share of beauties, including the best goal I've ever seen at Oakwell....

The fact he'd just turned down a £5m move to Southampton only increased his legendary status at BFC.

Shame he missed that vital penalty at Wembley in the playoff final of 2000. The only penalty he ever missed for us.

Barnsley legend. Darren Barnard.

Do you know that Martin Scott (I assume he was a decent left back for you?) is now our first team coach?

He'll be in the dugout this afternoon.

Martin Scott was a fantastic left back. For me a left back first and foremost should be able to defend. That is why he came just above Barnard for me.

Barnard wins hands down for free kicks. Scott trumps Barnard for penalties. Scott was great at getting forward and was quicker than Barnard. Barnard could swing a lovely ball in.

So for me Martin Scott just wins, far better defender than Barnard. But there isn't much in it. Like I said, first and foremost a defender should be able to defend. That is what just puts Scott top for me.

Yes. To be fair, I say 'left back' but Darren played LWB for us for the first couple of years, and eventually left wing.

When we had Barnard, Shipperley, Dyer, Sheron, Eaden and Hignett in the same team in 1999/2000 we were in heaven. Goals goals goals.

Those were the days... :/

Aye as a wing back Barnard would probably just beat Scotty.

I like to reminisce. Not much to get excited about the last few years.

Class goal. Quite similar to the Lyon cracker at White Hart Lane the other week.

And then asked for his autograph. Great days :)

, probably the only thing he hadn't taken of the great man.

My dad still insists he is the hardest bloke he has seen down the Gate. Hew says people go on about Gow, but compared to Thresher, Gow was a light weight!

Scott for me, best all rounder. Brennan not here long but was super quick. Macca pretty consistent, Cunningham potentially very good, Barnard set piece specialist but bit slow. That's my order, notice first 4 all played in 2nd tier, so higher rating,

but will always have soft spot for Belly, coz we got him cheap!

A lot of those full backs also prospered because of the man they had in front of them. Tinnion started off as a full back at Newcastle and always gave his full back a lot of support as well as retaining possession very well. His plays inside the full backs for the overlap also enabled their runs to be met with decent balls. No doubt a lot of those are excellent full backs in their own right but Tinman certainly helped them out a lot.
