Goals Scored Total

51 goals have been scored by city so far this season. That's more than five teams in the top ten and more than two teams currently in play off positions.

If only there wasn't the emphasis on keeping a clean sheet when we were scoring more than the opposition early on in the season.

It always happens in my experience, concentrate on one aspect of the team and the rest goes to pot.

What a shame we never dealt with it gradually.

Surely the problem was that although we were scoring freely, the opposition was scoring more freely against us! This then led to a loss of confidence and we were into a downward spiral. Its great scoring loads, but it HAS to be more than the opposition consistently to maintain confidence.

Interesting point but without an interesting point, the total Ethos of football is to put the ball in the net ( theirs ) more than they put the ball in the net ( yours )....what happens is a strange ritual of concerning yourself more about keeping them out than what really matters is putting yours in, it's called in learned circles as the oki koki effect.....in out in out then you shake it all about etc etc......wot you say ?

we let in 5 against Blackburn and 3 against Leeds, other than that we were doing ok, with something like 16 for and 15 against.

Once we started trying to shore up the defense we stopped scoring regularly but still kept conceding regularly.

I know it's difficult and with hindsight we'd have been better of just going for wins and sort the defense out gradually. But if everyone is calling for clean sheets, the pressure is on to deliver, maybe not for the best in the long run.

Look at the midfield for me!

Saturday showed that. When we had a bit of strength and bite in the midfield we looked OK. As soon as we took that off it went to pot.

The two centre halves still seem unable to concentrate for the whole 90 minutes and that in tandem with our midfield problems and issues with the keeper coming off his line (which now seems to be fixed by the way) are the reasons we have conceded so many.

Heaton is being a lot more commanding and at least we don't look like conceding every time we concede a corner or whenever a cross is coming into the box. Only slight criticism on Saturday is that he should have been a bit stronger and come out with the ball in his hands for the first goal when he dived at the players feet. Otherwise, very sound game.

Going forward is not an issue and the fact that we can stick the ball in the onion bag with the forwards we've got might just save our bacon.
