"performance" Rather Than "result"

Never more important than tonight to get our heads round, as it's never been plainer how getting caught in the circumstance of a result rather than a performance leads to unnecessary negativity.

Performance-wise: One of the best I've seen all season. Containing a Brighton side, who are by no means poor and deadly away from home is no small achievement. Every player did their job, although I'd argue Pearson was the weakest of the bunch and we could have done with one of our more natural finishers on the field, but compromising strength in the midfield could have lead to our undoing. It's a consecutive clean sheet for a side that couldn't have been more defensively frail.

However, consider all this in the light of the circumstances outside our control and the picture becomes bleak.

With results not going our way, the gap to safety is widening, leaving us still rock bottom of the table with Peterborough still holding a game in hand. Itmakes things seem like 2 points lost rather than 1 point gained.

Tonight's result is one which you can only be unhappy with, when you look at the outside forces beyond the team's control.

When O Driscoll said to Twentyman that he ignores the league table and has no idea where CIty are in the league etc. At first, it sounded mental, but it's situations like this where it seems essential. Positivity and confidence is the only thing that's realisitically going to keep us in the Championship, and when you look solely at the performances there's a hell of a lot to be positive about.

I think it's a way of thinking we could all do with taking on board.

I was disappointed that each of the subs weren't made 5-10 minutes earlier. Pearson was showing signs of being a weak link in the midfield and an extra 10 minutes would have given Albert a better chance of making an impact. Baldock getting 3 minutes was pretty pointless and could have done with coming on just after 80 mins. Stead needed someone up top with him most of the game, but as said it would have compromised the midfield, 10 minutes to go though was the time to try to find a winner. Think Baldock's pace could have had a big effect on Brighton's defence which seemed on the slow side.

Still it's not often we've been able to come away from a game saying we should have won it.

We certainly didn't perform like a relegation threatened team which has got to give us confidence for the remaining games. Wasn't it around this time last year we started our unbeaten run ?

By the way, does anyone seriously believe SOD doesn't know where we are in the league ?

Not sure but 30 points to play for 3 points from safety, could be a lot worse...

Doubt he doesn't know, maybe means he doesn't constantly keep himself updated, but he will have a very good idea based on results ie today we didn't win so are still bottom, if we had won he may not have.
