Unseen footage of the Hillsborough disaster to be shown.

Titled "How they buried the Truth"

Footage from ALL the BBC cameras which covered the match, these pictures were taken by the authorities and kept in a vault until now.

Sounds interesting! Thanks for the heads up on that.

Interesting if new footage is going to shown before the new inquest has taken place and compensation claims settled.

Never before broadcast footage will shed new light on the Hillsborough disaster and the subsequent police cover-up.

Programme-makers say vital fresh evidence was uncovered during the production of Panorama documentary Hillsborough: How they Buried the Truth.

The one-hour show, to be screened on Monday, uses material recorded by BBC television cameras on the day alongside CCTV from the stadium to illustrate the extent of the emergency services failures on the day.

It will show how lives could have been saved had the response been better organised and rescue efforts not been hampered.

The programme also includes interviews with former home secretary Jack Straw and chief constables from police forces implicated in efforts to conceal the truth about the tragedy.

Panorama reporter Peter Marshall told the ECHO the new footage had established what many who were there at the time had always known to be the case.

Mr Marshall, who attended the game on April 15, 1989 and was caught up in the pre-match crush outside the Leppings Lane end of the ground, said: The key thing is we have had access to footage from the BBC, which had seven cameras there.

After the disaster the tapes were sent to the authorities and the families lawyers, but since then they have been locked away.

By combining the TV recordings with CCTV, the documentary is able to show several key incidents from a number of different angles.

Mr Marshall says the powerful footage reflects the families and survivors recollections of events.

He said: To me and everybody else who was there, and certainly anyone who was in the Leppings Lane end, it was clear from the outset what happened.

We knew what had happened, the most powerful people knew, and yet the official view was that the rescue operation had been first-class.

By piecing together the recorded evidence the programme also shows how timings in a two-hour police video produced for the original inquest process were wrong.

The documentary has been in production since November, and Mr Marshall said the production team had spoken to members of the Hillsborough Family Support Group and Hillsborough Justice Campaign, as well as survivors and many other witnesses.

It highlights the way people including fans, doctors, emergency workers and others were silenced or had attempts made to discredit them.

The programme also includes one of the last recorded interviews with campaigning mum Anne Williams, who died last month.

Steve Kelly, who lost brother Mike, 38, at Hillsborough said he was looking forward to seeing what the programme would reveal.

He said: We are aware it will be on and welcome it, but I dont know a great deal yet about what it will show.

Im hoping it will address a lot of the issues, and for it to be on at the time it is is ideal for people to sit down and really take it in.

Some people tend to see it as an issue which should just go away but there are so many issues and so much still to uncover, so this is very welcome.

Mr Marshall said: A major thing to tackle is the view that the things which went wrong can only be seen in hindsight.

That is not the case - to people who were there at the time it was clear what was happening.

People should be prepared before they watch the programme. We are not showing things which would be distasteful but it is very much something that takes you back in to what happened and what it was like.

Even after watching that and seeing it unfold on my tv all those years ago I still get the impression that those smug bastards who failed to do their job, then to cruely and viscously lay the blame for the events of that fateful day solely on the victims and their fellow fans will still get away with it.

It's sad that Anne Williams fought for so long, but the new inquests were not held before she passed away.

The depth of corruption and cover-up which went on to hide the truth never fails to shock.

Anne Williams is an inspiration, how to never ever give up.

People doubted the Hillsborough families, people on here didn't believe them.

People on here believed the lies of the state over the words of ordinary honest people.

The solidarity of the people of Liverpool for 24 years has been incredible, they fought for justice against the odds, there day will come.

Was too young to fully understand it all at the time and I still can't fully understand how so much was allowed to be covered up and how people still haven't be bought to justice. It's just unbelievable that it has taken so long for the truth to be told. Corruption at its worse from the people we are meant to trust.

No one should go to game of football and not come home.

Justice for the 96.

I don't believe the authorities have learnt anything .

A similar tragedy will happen again unless the culture within the police changes.

I hope i'm wrong.

Sadly you are not wrong, the culture within many "services" is to "look after your own" and sod the consequences, the term "close ranks" reeks of a hidden agenda
