gater2
Should they mix? Brilliant clip of Matthew Syed not towing the party line on SSN when asked about the 10 years Roman Abramovich's 10 years at Chelsea: http://daveboyle.net/football-3/the-sky-sports-news-presenters-fear-of-an-opinion/ The presenters and Cascarino don't really know how to react when presented with a developed opinion linking football & politics. Is football really that disinterested in issues like this? Should fans like us care where the money comes from that funds our clubs?

The presenters are what some theorists call "repeaters", they do no real investigative journalism, agreed they are sports presenters but they read the autocues. Also there's a Steve Landsdown look-alike at around 2.50 on the linked video.

Is football really that disinterested in issues like this? Should fans like us care where the money comes from that funds our clubs? Of course we should care Until and unless a football club can survive on revenue honestly earned directly (and indirectly through advertising and sponsorship) from its supporters it is at risk from all manner shady motives. Even the most benevolent of owners may at some point find themselves forced to sell to the highest bidder regardless of the buyer's reasons and intent. Regulation may go some way to curbing the worst excesses but will ultimately fail against any determined attempt to overcome.
