Brizzle Jordan
Views? Hopefully he picks the better group of young players instead of the ones Pierce selected!
IdliketoRogerMoore
God help us! Has done nothing at management level but then there aren't to many English managers that have!
WolfOfWestStreet
Good appointment. Always talks intelligently and knows a lot about the game.
WolfOfWestStreet
You've got to remember this isn't a prestigious gig. Southgate has been working with the FA for some time and I think he was responsible for introducing a lot of youth initiatives (smaller goals, pitches 7v7 etc) Seems to be a forward thinking guy. Good luck to him.
westred1
Good luck to him indeed but he was hardly a shining light when in charge of Boro. In fact, they're where they are today because of him.
TRL
Southgate is an intelligent guy. I hope he can contribute but in the way he wants and is not shackled by the big wigs.
SecretSam
Good luck to him, it's a no-win job, especially given the morons in charge at the FA
grifty
That was Brooking - 10 years after it was introduced by the Wales FA. Hasn't done the taffy much good!
Bristol_South_End
Hasn't done the taffy much good! Maybe, but I'd argue that Wales's current team is much improved over the one 10 years ago. Whether these changes had anything to do with it is obviously debatable. Rob k
Hardly inspiring, I understand he talks a good game though. Would still rather have Glen Hoddle involved somehow.
DapperDarch
Southgate is as inspiring as a s****y nappy. I cant imagine he is going to motivate our youngsters to be honest

Taylor10
Another typical safe appointment from the FA. That said sadly there are not a lot of options but Southgate would not have been my first choice. It's a big job to be honest but I just really hope he doesn't go about it like Pearce did. Clueless. They achieved that without Bale too. I was at the Italy game and they were magnificent that night (I'm not Welsh)
WolfOfWestStreet
Its The England U21 job ..... Seriously, its a shit job who are you expecting .... Ferguson to come out of retirement? It always goes to Experienced coaches or Aspiring managers with an England pedigree It's not a glamour job. I'm interested to know who else people would consider. Red-Robbo
As long as it gets him off ITV I welcome this. Hopefully he'll appoint that moron Dixon as well. I'm always reminded of Alan Patridge when I see him on TV. That, and a medieval gargoyle.
Pickle Rick
He's like the English version of Chria Coleman. Talks utter shite and full of cliches and excuses. English national football remains doomed for the foreseeable future.

Rob k
So who would you prefer? Seriously how do you know if he is a good coach or not? Time will tell Boro???? I would have preferred Hoddle or dario o'grady to him.
stephenkibby.
can't think it really matters by this time. nothing southgate or anyone can do.the way they play football is ingrained by then. as has been said so many times, boys don't learn the skills early enough. look at the swansea game tonite, what did they end up with,5 or 6 spanish players on the pitch? just except it,we'll never be a force in world football,(well not in my lifetime anyway)
WolfOfWestStreet
Boro???? I would have preferred Hoddle or dario o'grady to him. He was a manager at Boro, with Engkand he'll only be dealing with the squad he chooses and won't have to deal with all the other bollocks that comes with being manager, like transfers, wages, budgeting and focus on coaching the players. Dario is in his 70s and retired (I think) should have been given the gig AGES ago the quality of the young players that have come out of Alex I'm amazed he has never been considered. The FA sadly will never hire Hoddle again. He wasn't fired because he was crap!!
WolfOfWestStreet
Southgate will set us back years. But it was so predictable that a **** like him would get the job. What's your beef with him?

WolfOfWestStreet
No beef with him at all other than he's got absolutely no qualifications to take this on - what has he done other than got the sack from Middlesbrough ? He's just another off the production line of blazers which has resulted in us winning **** all for 50 years. Yes men with no idea how to move the English game forward. He'll look after himself and secure the job for the next 3-5 years, during which time we have glorious failure in the quarter finals of whatever tournament we are in - as usual. Shite, absolutely shite appointment. But you offer no alternative?
Guest
In the minority clearly but of the options he'd be my first choice. I think there is a pretty good manager under there. Took/got the Boro job too early in his career. Think he has matured since, appreciates and learnt from the mistakes made and shall impress. Neck on the line I think he'll end up having a very good pedigree in management - just needs/needed someone to take the punt.
