Paddy31
A lad I know is walking to the south pole: http://youngesttosouthpole.wordpress.com/ He's about 250 miles in to the walk (so only 500 to go), and is trying to raise cash for the Princes Trust. http://www.justgiving.com/youngest-to-southpole/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=youngest-to-southpole&utm_campaign=pfp-tweet Currently the youngest Briton to walk to the pole was 27 years old - Lewis is 16. The youngest person is an American girl who was 18 when she did it. There is a City connection - he goes to the same school as Joe Bryan.
Rule The Waves
Cracking effort - surprised more hasn't been made that a young lad from Bristol is aiming to be the youngest person to trek to the South Pole. Has this been in any of the local press?

Not having a go at him of course he's done brilliant and have been following him in the Post during the week, would just like to see a non public schoolboy have the chance to do something similar. There are plenty of chances. Many scout groups go on these types of expeditions. If you want to go on them there are various places to go and get the chance. Not just private school domain. The lad had the drive and determination to set out and do something remarkable. Others can do equally remarkable things if they seek out opportunities which are available in abundance. His school is an irrelevance other than evidence that they have done a great job in nurturing a very impressive young man.
