Match Day Pubs - Good News?

We've lost a quite a few in walking distance of the ground in recent years so good to see the Rope Walk back in business.

Used to be a busy pre match pub years ago.

Also the old Star (Florikan and Firken etc) on North Street has re-opened as The Steam Crane after a long period in the doldrums.

Anyone tried either of these two?

Potential pre/post match traditional pubs for City fans, or are they more the new breed of smart 'gasto pubs'?

Steam crane is ok, bit weird inside. Great selection of beers but only stowford on tap. Doesn't play any sports unlike its previous entity.

Edit: definately more on the wanky side like the lounge / terrace / hen and chicken

Lack of screens obviously doesn't sound great if they're trying to entice pre match drinkers, although I can live without them and the '6 real ales on hand pulls' does sound promising. Either way, you'd imagine the Steam Crane has to be an improvement on one or two of it's previous incarnations!

Rope Walk sounds a bit overly clean and tidy as well from what I can gather. Grub looks quite expensive, not a good sign.

We shall see.

I'm surprised Gorgeous George Ferguson has allowed them to reopen, as it could affect trade at his beloved Tobacco Factory.

Haven't been in there since he came out publicly against Ashton Vale project.

Surprised he didn't pull rank and demand a couple of Bicycle Shops be opened instead

Pretty sure the number of cycle shops on North Street has decreased markedly in recent years, whereas happily the number of bars/pubs seems to have increased if anything - in quantity at least, if not necessarily in quality.

Certainly no need to use the Tobacco Factory if you don't like it, or Ferguson - plenty of choice and still a few proper old fashioned pubs to be found.
