Not saying Michel platini isn't trying to help France but how come there allowed in a group but there results don't count so play competitive games, whilst before now host had to look for friendlies.

Yes, they used to play friendlies and now they'll play competitive games where the result doesn't count. Also known as 'friendlies'.

But other teams used to have to travel the world finding friendlies, now all lined up ready. As this is the last euros in its current form why change it.

No the actual tournament in 2016

"To accommodate the expansion from a 16 team finals tournament to 24 teams, the format will be changed from that used in 2012 with the addition of two extra groups in the group stage, and an extra round in the knockout stages. The six groups (A to F) would still contain four teams each, with the top two from each group still going through to the knockout stage. In the new format however, the four best third-ranked sides would also progress, leaving 16 teams going into the new round of 16 knockout stage, ahead of the usual quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, and only 8 teams going out at the group stage"

Personally, I see it as a banana skin of the sort England always seems to slip up on through over-confidence and apathy.  Switzerland are currently ranked 9 places above us, and Slovenia 12 places below us according to the FIFA world rankings - no pushovers by any means.

If England doesn't approach these matches with good preparation and respect, they could be headlining the teams failing at the group stage.

Let's hope they put these games around the country and not just Wembley.

Was a piece in daily mail? About this today.

The games have to be played at wembley.

England's draw is actually a huge headache for fa. Cheap tickets only option

As for the groups what a farce. You might aswell put all the big nations through automatically and let the rest fight it out.

For what reason?

Anyone got advice for travelling abroad to watch England? The channels to get tickets etc. really fancy Switzerland on my birthday weekend!!

As KITR says above, you'll need to join Englandfans. One word of advice, though: unless you want to go to the two warm-up friendlies in Miami in early June, it's probably best to wait until just after the World Cup to join, otherwise you'll have to pay the joining fee now, and then the membership renewal fee after the World Cup (since membership lasts for two years and needs to be renewed after every tournament).

After you join it can take a few weeks before you'll be allowed to buy tickets for away games as all new members are checked for any previous football related offences (which includes police cautions), which can take some time - but you should just about be OK for the Switzerland qualifier.

You'll have a decent chance of getting a ticket for Switzerland away. Last time we played them away, in Basel in 2010, almost everyone who wanted a ticket got one.

I think it was a condition of the loan used to fund the rebuilding of Wembley.

Back in August 2012 England played Italy in a 'home' friendly in Bern; the FA couldn't play the game in England as Wembley had to remain 'off limits' in the days following the end of the Olympics.

Tis true. So the restructuring off the euros mean now effectively England won't have a decent competitive home fixture for well over 2 years. Hence the headache for the fa. Or the could try and appease the fans for once and make tickets a tenner.....?

Even if they make it cheap, England home games are boring, passionless affairs, where you are likely to be sat next to a grown man wearing face paint and a replica shirt. Or worse, a grown man with facepaint, replica shirt and playing a musical instrument.

Hardly an attractive proposition.

Sadly true. Went to Eng V Ukraine in the WCQ at Wembley. What a plastic footballing experience that was, right down to the laminated "clapper" that was on the seat.
