real_bristol
Phase 1 will see doubling of track, the following says the opening if a station is dependent on a separate business case, I think by that they mean they have apply for separate funding to Central govt. http://www.travelwest.info/sites/default/files/documents/MetroWest%20Strategic%20Overview%20Leaflet%20for%20web.pdf We ****ed up by getting rid of the trams and allowing too much dependency on cars. City is now at times impossible to drive through.

City is now at times impossible to drive through. To be fair most City's got rid of them at the time. We f***ed up in the 80's removing the old freight line that ran under St Mary Redcliffe and along the docks - an idea light railway that could have spurred off to the centre but also provided a more logical route for the Bristol/Portishead line.. ..and we also f***ed up in the 80's by not getting the Metro built then when the likes of the Portishead line would have been much cheaper to get going as freight was still running on it as late as 1981/82 and well maintained as proved when the GWR celebrations in 86 ran on the line with little or no work required.. Aizoon
Spot on with you last points regarding too many councils. The leader of Banes was on the bbc west politic show ,he claimed the 4 authorities was working well together what a joke that is. The problem is these tin point council run their authority like their only little fiefdom. Times are changing and if their is not a greater Bristol or City wide region Bristol will get even more left behind if that possible. The Toytown councils have their own little empires, and they won't give up that authority even to a joint transport authority.
