Port Said Red
Just watching the "live replay" of the game and have to say that I thought Carroll looked like he actually reached for the ball with his hand and it hit his head instead. He may or may not have got a touch with his hand, but on another day a referee might have wondered what his hand was doing there in the first place. I know the guy behind me shouted handball immediately, shame the officials didn't
Esmond Million's Bung
I think the hand was insurance but never touched the ball.
Super
after many looks it is hard to tell. Certainly wouldn't blame the ref.
Mad Cyril
Good point made on MOTD where they showed the rotation of the ball change just before the header - namely hand first. Clearly would not expect match officials to pick this up at the time. When will the match be replayed?
Big C
Actually I thought it was a great defensive header. The rotation changed because the keeper got an hand to it and not Carroll. So I wouldn't say he was lucky, I think he would have been unlucky to have been sent off

Lack of Action Man
Definitely hits carrols hand first, but no way you can expect an official to give it. No hard feelings, as wouldn't have ever expected the pen for it but we can take pride that again this shows how close we ran west ham

getinthere
I've watched it several times and I'm sure the offending hand was the goalkeeper's.
Port Said Red
I think it was too, (the goalkeeper I mean ) my point was that waving his hand towards the ball in that way, the referee could have easily made a bad decision. It definitely looked to me that he instinctively raised his hand and then just managed to use his head (in both senses of the phrase) just in time. NVMal
This thread is a bit embarrassing. It wasn't handball, he headed it. Get over it. We played well and were arguably the better team on the day but that's football. We don't need to make any excuses or blame luck.
City1970
2 days later and the debate continues. The ref and his mates had split seconds to decide. It don't matter until the next time.
Lack of Action Man
Definitely? There is no way you can be sure about that. 99% sure? As I said though that's with the benefit of countless replays, hd enhancement on the footage and it slowed down to less than a snails pace. No way I'd ever expect to get given it, so no hard feelings really.
JamesBCFC
At the game I just thought it was a header, my dad watching at home said that in the replays in looked like Adrian's hand got to it and then carrol headed it away
