Kid in the Riot
Just reading all this recent stuff about stem cell research is absolutely fascinating. Obviously they can already pretty much grow a new hand or something for anyone using their stem cells. You can get a new heart from a pig. The big one is the brain but we've learnt more about the brain in the past decade then in the previous thousands of years. They are now saying they can replace dying cells in your body with embryonic ones. If research carries on at its current rate I could honestly see in 100 years or so people's life expectancy massively improving and maybe even steps towards being able to completely regenerate an entire person! Sounds like something from a sci-fi film (has probably been done) but seems almost inevitable at some point. Throws up some fascinating scenarios, though with already having a global population crisis the thought of people living to 120-130 years old could be the death knell of the world! Would this be a good thing though? If we ( future generations) all live forever, what would happen to our basic purpose in life....reproduction? If we could all live for 2,3, 400 years and still reproduce the planet would not be able to sustain the population.
