'Orns
Woodsy's boring fact of the day: we get eclipses as the sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, and the moon is 400 times closer to the earth than the sun (roughly, I don't think it's bang on, but you get my point) Is that a coincidence?? Yes but if the Moon was bigger or we were further from the sun we'ed also get eclipses

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE GAS Immense amounts of gas are ejected from the Sun and, indeed, from the Football League.
Aizoon
Yes but if the Moon was bigger or we were further from the sun we'ed also get eclipses The coincidence is that, at a total eclipse. just the Sun's body is covered by the Moon so we see the corona and prominences. Except in cloudy bloody Cornwall PS Occasionally, when the Moon is at apogee (furthest from the Earth) we get an annular eclipse where the Moon doesn't quite cover the whole of the Sun, even at dead centre. 'Orns
Yes but if the Moon was bigger or we were further from the sun we'ed also get eclipses Yeah, valid point. But the fact we get perfect eclipses....coincidence? Anyway, today's isn't happening in Malvern, it seems mother nature has put paid to my chances of seeing it

BCFChris
Immense amounts of gas are ejected from the Sun and, indeed, from the Football League. This is factually incorrect. Only small amounts of gas are ejected from The Football League!
