Hmmm we need a manager then we're set for the prem. There's a Wolverhampton born arm waving footballing guru running the England U19s who might be interested.

Christ; remember this lad - turning circle of an ocean liner, though could head a first ball, that's for sure.

Amazing to think he was part of a Celtic team that beat European Cup holders AC Milan a few years before he was playing for us...

In fact; when you look at the players this fella was playing with for us under McInnes, it is somewhat surprising we went down hill so badly.

Most of them were in the 30s on massive wages who once did well

I don't know about that.

When you look at a starting eleven from the time McManus was here it might have been expensive, but wasn't lacking experience/potential, and certainly wasn't as ancient as all that.  Had some players of very good pedigree, and/or who went on to better themselves after us.

Example;

Heaton (26/27 at the time; won promotion to the Premier league following season)
Cunningham (21/22; full international at the time)
McManus (28/29; full international less than 18 months prior)
Bates (25/26; had spent vast majority of career in Championship or above at that point)
Foster (26/27; Champions League MoM award/SPL winner 18 months prior)
Skuse (25/26; currently in the Championship playoff with new side)
Anderson (23/24; currently in the Championship playoff with new side)
Adomah (24/25; 25/26; currently in the Championship playoff with new side)
Danns (29/30; regular first team Championship football since leaving)
Baldock (24/25; Golden Boot winner with us the next season; back in Championship)
Stead (29/30; good cup runs with Bradford, but not much else, admittedly)

None were actually over 30, and some very good players there - four of them are in top six Championship teams or the Premier League now.

Stand by the fact that for all his post-exit chat of tight budgets etc, McInnes simply didn't have the ability to put together/coach a team at that level, regardless of the resources at his disposal.  Don't expect to ever see him coach at a comparative level again, certainly not with any success.
