Eddie Hitler
In all the celebrations about our winning the Championship some of us may have missed that one of the many non-league clubs around Bristol has actually achieved league status. Not the perennial staple of local news results Bristol Manor Farm but someone less well-known: Bristol Rovers. This team plays at the old rugby ground on the Gloucester Road, which is presumably why they wear a rugby-type strip of quartered blue and white, and have managed to attain league status by taking a gamble on going full-time in a league of part-timers; this has allowed several of their players to give up their rather promising careers in landscape gardening (the job you can hold down while indulging your "smoking" habit through the day) and in one unfortunate case street begging. No more dog on a string and polystyrene cup for coins for Stewart - and isn't he relieved! Anyway I was wondering whether like fans of big clubs in London we could adopt a small local team such as this for match days when the away trip is just too far away. Granted the standard of football would be so low that you would be itching to get your boots on and get out there but imagine the atmosphere that we could create in the mostly empty ground with a big red-shirted conga dancing round the stands. They would be hugely grateful for the extra gate receipts (I understand the chairman has taken out some sort of payday loan with an eye-watering APR) on their big football league adventure and in years to come we could amaze people down the pub by saying that we saw Bristol Rovers when they were actually in the league to the sound of pint glasses being dropped in shock. Like Yeovil's blink-and-you-miss-it time in the Championship this is very much a passing visit to the league by them so let's get down there and see a bit of genuine local history. cidered abroad
You really are having' a laugh! Our support is spread well around the towns like Weston, Taunton, Nailsworth, Frome etc. Plus the Bristle based Mangos, Manor Farm, Backwell. Enough there to support as a second club without totally losing one's marbles by paying to watch the Gas.

Rudolf Hucker
So they wear quartered shirts - a design copied from Wycombe no doubt?
Aizoon
So they wear quartered shirts - a design copied from Wycombe no doubt? Probably a feeder club.

Leveller
Perhaps we could give their players a taste of the major leagues by letting them clean our players' boots and doing some post match litter picking. I expect they'd be grateful for that.
RedM
Quite a nice idea, we should do more for community projects. Helping a less able club would make me feel worthwhile. What about arranging a pre-season friendly at their ground, I expect the takings from the admission and bar takings would set them up nicely for the rest of their season, no need to make it ticket, just POTD would be nice and simple. I doubt many of us will turn up to a fixture sandwiched in between our bigger games at Mangotsfield and Weston. Woss reckon?
