Surely a must-see for anyone who enjoyed/suffered his idiosyncratic commentary style in the 80s & 90s

I think Im right in saying that good old Roger first appeared on our screens back in the 1960s.

I wonder if Colin Howlett still joins the "large contingent of Rovers fans" at away games nowadays?

Didn't he pass away a year or two back?

I reckon his best quote was when he hosted a midweek sports round up on HTV. Just as the commercial break ended we heard the immortal words ' that's bollocks Gareth (Chillcott), hello and welcome back to sportsweek'! Classic Roger Malone.

I played golf up at Bristol and Clifton a couple of summers ago and we happened to be following Roger and Alan Dicks around the course. Both RM and AD were brilliant company in the club house afterwards, real gentlemen and very entertaining.

Bring old Rog back, his gaffes were pure comedy!!

Always good for a 'wow wee' was our Rog!

Loved how he kept calling our suntanned playboy Scott McGovern.....

Not too difficult to get the ex-Man U striker's name right?!

And what an array of different coloured v necks with the HTV logo on!!

Heard a great story about him in The Parkside Club in Briz too.....

The trouble with Tottle was he commentated like he was on TV. Great passion but you had no idea what was going on most of the time unless a goal was scored.

also on radio Bristol they kept playing "music" during the match and you'd only find out if something happened when they stopped the "record" half way through which was normally bad news

When u heard "we interrupt this record as there is a goal at ashton gate" it was rarely good news!!

I always

thought it was.

'Pick that out of the net you boys from crewe'

It was exactly that after, I believe, Bob Taylor thundered a 35 yard half volley past Dean Greygoose (great surname).

If only Taylor hadn't done his hammy later in that game, surely we'd never have surrendered the league to the Gash.

He did wear lovely V necks, did our Rog though!

Whatever happened to MaloneFM on here?

Also remember Roger refusing to come down from the gantry, as the crowd were singing ' RM what a ******' after a ( rovers?) game, waited for the police or stewards to arrive.

That was after the last game of the 89/90 season against Walsall. I think he tried to come down the ladder from the gantry about five times before eventually securing a police/steward escort at the bottom so he could get down after about an hour!

We always used to joke that the HTV stuff was so badly edited that one day they would cut a goal out. I am sure it did happen once, it was a game where Tainton scored in the 1st half, notable for the fact it went in rather than sailing about a foot over the bar which was TT's default position.  We got to half time in the highlights with me saying to my dad, "I am sure we were 1 up at half time". My dad said I must be wrong, but sure enough the whistle blew and Roger says "there we are half time and Bristol City will be happy to have their one goal lead".......

I never did see a replay of that goal. :)
