Stewart,salaries & Incentives.

Nice to see the likes of Stewart linked with us but of course like so much in todays game its all about money.

Stewart, fit and playing 40 games or so would pretty assuredly get 20 odd goals and prove to be the catalyst to propel us up to the next level.Hopefully would also be a good role model to the younger players in general and specifically be able to assist in the development of our strikers.Would also be able to perform at the higher level.

Money, the package, so how do you formulate such a deal? In all honesty we fans have no idea of what makes an acceptable package. It becomes even more complicated when you consider that you are prepared to pay in addition to a players salary a transfer fee as in the case of McPhee,175k.

So in the case of a "free" (well at least no fee being paid to the former club )are you willing to factor in that potential saving into the players contract? This would seem to be the way Sam Allardyce has enabled Bolton to acquire players in the last few seasons.

Had Thorpe been around the last two seasons it is highly probable we would already be a first division outfit, however, the biggest element that clouded opinion against Thorpe was of course the emotive one of money! Many fans sought to focus on his earnings while not being particularly concerned about others who had cost the club transfer fees,signing-on fees, and who enjoyed good salaries but who contributed so little to the clubs development, most notably Jones,&Beadle.

The value of promotion in revenue terms is over 500k, it may well be necessary for S.L to exercise his financial brilliance in a creative way with the likes of Stewart so as to create a package with a win/win situation one which protects us but incentivises and sufficiently rewards the player .

If we sell Doherty to Sunderland for £500k+, then that money can be used to pay Stewart's wages, with him in the side we'll go up easily and then in Division One we would be able to afford his wages anyway, so does Stewart have five-figure weekly wages? Anybody know?

We all know getting Stewart in is just what we need up front. Proven and would help bring the junior strikers on. Yes wages and money is a problem.....But how much does SL and the board really want 1st Division football at the gate? ;);)
