Not sure why we come out of it so badly though Think he used the holiday function. I haven't played it too much so don't know the details on how that would work. With a 1000 years simulated, I'm sure there was quite a bit of randomness to it so I wouldn't worry too much. Also I think Burnley was quite successful. Moreso than the likes of Arsenal and others.
