dziekanowski
Hi Any mechanics out there Wondered if anyone could help. In the last week I have been driving and all of a sudden the speedometer will drop to 0 mph even though I am driving 30-40mph , it may last for 2-3 minutes then jump back up to the actual speed I am driving. Today is stopped for over 5 minutes , is this a major problem or can it be fixed easily? I have focus 54 plate.
Barrs Court Red
Is this happening when you press the break?

Barrs Court Red
Google says circuit board corrosion. Apparently wd40 can clean the contacts of the speed sensor as a temp fix, but looks like a known issue.

Gibbs
Unrelated (different car) but this happens to me except the cars starts and stays at 0. Hasn't happened for a few months but I usually pull over and start the engine again.
Pickle Rick
If you haven't taken things apart already, I'd just buy a cheap code reader and see if you get anything come up. Purchase this regardless of whether you've sorted the issue: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001CBBY7O/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1439073953&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&keywords=eobd+code+reader I would recommend every car owner to own one. If your car is over 10-15 years old, it may not have the 16 pin connection. It may be the old 32 pin. As for your fault, (if not fixed) is most likely to be your instrument cluster.
