Londoner
Ayling clearly has the natural ability to bring th ball out and play with his feet....Williams on the other hand more often than not lumps it upfield....and certainly doesn't beat players. You then add into the fact we are leaving too man gaps at the back. Personally would like ayling to carry on his game....but question marks really need to be asked of Williams and his role so far this season....better to have a no nonsense centre in there to shore it up? day9560
I agree that 2 ball playing centre backs leaves us vulnerable, Williams is a solid defender but his passing ability hasn't been amazing. 4 at the back would be a nice change
Guest
No i would just put flint and Williams in a back 4. I feel sorry for the back 3. Move ayling alongside smith in midfield and play 4 at the back. We can still look good going forward and not look like conceding whenever we give the ball away. Londoner
No stick with th 5, but williams doesn't need to accelerate forward , let ayling do that.
Kingswoodactor
I've always thought that Ayling could work as a defensive midfielder. Reads the game so well, always good at nicking the ball off players toes and is naturally gifted at coming forward from deep with pace and accurate passing. Or maybe I'm just completely mental. day9560
So you're saying have 5 as defense but use Ayling as pseudo-CB?
