RedRock
Good concept, badly applied. In fact, just horrendous. What should have happened is a more considered roll-out. No good sticking up 20mph if the road has been designed by traffic engineers for 40 or 50 mph speeds. That's just a licence to print money from speeding tickets and make motorists despair. They should have been far more selective, spent money on totally redesigning the roads to make them far more pedestrian/cyclist friendly and make the motorist think they are of equal or lesser importance than others in using that space. Simples. Shared space works in slowing down traffic without use of signs and penalties with the added benefit of creating far more attractive spaces for all to enjoy. Easy solution to the north Bristol problem created by the new 'village' at Filton. Narrow lanes (reducing the speed of traffic) to create a central tramlines all down Cribbs Causeway/Falcondale Road/ White Tree/ Blackboy Hill/ Whiteladies Road and into town. Plenty of space to do that. Make the developers pay for it. So a facility provided for free, road traffic calmed, pollution/noise reduced and more attractive environment plus major commercial benefits. It's ****** easy. Looking from the outside though, all this is just typical bloody Bristol. No thinking outside the box, just plod on with half baked 'solutions'. ...
If the average speed in Bristol in rush hour is 14 mph, why is a 20 mph limit an issue?? TFR
