That didn't take long...

Wondered how long it would be before the racist card came out.

So someone who knows nothing about the situation at either club is allowed to essentially insinuate that a criminal act has taken place (if they were sacked because of the colour of their skin).

Tony Fernandes (and plenty of football chairpeople who are not white) have sacked plenty of white managers - I wonder what the reaction would be if some nobody starts throwing around allegations that they sacked them because they were white?

Idiotic comments like this do so much more harm than good in the battle against discrimination.

It`s just all so bloody counter productive. What chairman is going to employ a black manager if this is going to be the unsubstantiated crap that`s going to come their way when the time comes (as it inevitably will) to sack them? Football management is like that for ***** sake! If you get a manager`s job in Sunderland for example you surely don`t expect to still be there in five years even if you`ve got a contract for that long.

Chris Ramsey on the other hand was deservedly sacked for doing an awful job at a club with such massive resources. In the summer they already had 5 quality left backs, (including Konchesky who was pinched off us) and Ramsey was still on the hunt for another. Should've been sacked then. Idiotic, horrible mismanagement of a budget.

The same chairmen who sacked these black managers hired them in the first place. Has Roberts and his race-card cronies not considered this?

By playing the race card, the likes of Jason Roberts will more likely put off chairmen from hiring black managers in the first place for fear of all the shit they will get if they end up sacking them.

What's that got to do with anything,(agree with everything)he's black so let's kick up a fuss, forget the white managers who have lost their jobs this season

The sacking of Chris Powell was very harsh. But it has nothing to do with the colour of his skin. They were exactly the same with Grayson and Lee Clark.

Exactly, they lasted longer in their roles than some white managers this season.

Agree completely.

Forgetting the comments of Townsend and Roberts the real issue here though is there are so few non white managers compared to the ratio of players these days so when two (one justifiably, the other not so) lose their jobs on the same day it brings the issue into focus.

If the less enlightened on here can't see the obvious disconnect between approx 30-40% of players now not being white and less than 5% of managers being so that reflects on them, doesn't it?

We can all see it, it`s right in our faces every week and the vast majority would agree that there is disparity. The reasons for that disparity are less than clear though and difficult to define.

The point of this thread is that the problem will continue and will be more difficult to address while you have ********* like Townsend and Roberts spouting their knee jerk rubbish every time they perceive some `racism` at work. It is a discussion regarding this rather than the bigger issue which I would like to think most of us are `enlightened` enough to see and have concerns about.

It's a thorny issue alright.

I think that Powell was hard done by. I'm sure he'll be in a job again soon. Ramsey is an inexperienced fella who was thrown in at the deep end last season. He probably only got the permanent job because they didn't get the candidates they wanted. Hopefully he'll get another job somewhere else and do well, seems like a good guy.
