Boxing Day travel from W-S-M

Someone mentioned on another thread about a bus company used to run a coach from the forest to the games if they still did that would be the answer (for me anyway) . It would be good for all matches as well as I am fed up of driving round looking for a parking spot or getting there about midday for a three o clock KO.

Hi guys, how are people getting to the Boxing Day game from outside of Bristol? I know that no trains and buses are running outside of the city and can't find an alternative way in. Lots travel up from Weston on match day so does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

If I hear of anyone with space I'll let you know

Round trip say 50 miles. Average car probably get 7 miles per litre at a quid a litre. £7.00. plus £5.00. parking. As others have said a bit steep even taking into account wear and tear on the car which would be doing the journey anyway!

Sounds illegal to me, plying for trade as an unlicensed Hackney carriage...........

I think it's ok as long as it's for petrol money only ie shared expenses. Trying to make a profit would I'm sure invalidate social, domestic and pleasure insurance. Might be worth checking with someone who actually knows!

Nothing illegal here mate just helping a fellow supporter getting to the game.but never mind I'll won't bother. just go straight to the game with my son.

"helping a fellow supporter" sounds like "Would you like a lift with me? I'm going anyway."

What you said was

Quote

£10 each return

There's a difference. A big difference.

Thanks phantom, was wondering if you guys would have a minibus on or something? Surprised city haven't put the CATS on like they would have done if it was an away fixture

We looked into it a few years back, we'd have to hire from Xmas eve to the 27th the cost was too much

I will pass this on to people I know that drive up.

Hate to say this is why I actually prefer an away game it's less hassle

Can't believe people are bringing up the legal implications of giving someone you don't know a return trip from Weston to Bristol for a £10.00.

If you don't like the price then all you say is thanks but no thanks.

I bet he wished he never offered.

I think it's more the fact that he was blatantly trying rip off fellow City Fans. If he'd just asked for something towards the petrol he'd have got praise instead.

Hardly a shocking amount really. How much would it be on the bus or train for a return ticket if they were running.

Bus and train are between £5 and £7 return I believe and whilst £10 isn't a shocking amount, it's still a damn sight more than it was costing him.

True. But when you have no means of getting to the match to see the team you love     On the day after Christmas and be able to have a couple of beers if that's your bag.

without the worry of driving home.

Relativly small price to pay I reckon.

£5 each way.

It's not the cost I find offensive. If I was driving from Weston to the game and had room in the car then I would just offer to take them without asking anything. Looking to make a profit out of the situation wouldn't even enter my head.

Ok, i agree with you in that regard. I would myself not think about monetary gain if I were in that situation. But it seems you and I are a dying breed.

If someone offered me a lift for an approximate 40 mile round trip for £10

I would think that quite reasonable given the alternative (a taxi).

I may well PM you for a lift the next away game. A pint and a packet of Werthingtons Original ok as payment?

If I'm heading that way anyway I'll be more than happy :D

Hate to have caused divided opinion in OTIB fashion, I can see both sides of the coin but wasn't willing to pay 20 quid to see a game of football when I already paid for my bus season ticket and football season ticket! Thanks for the suggestions guys but looks like Phantom has sorted it. Thanks again everyone
