FC Lorient

Just thought I would post this, it's an aerial shot of FC Lorient's ground and training facilities.

Behind the stand with the white roof is a full size grass training pitch, to the left are full sized all weather and a clay surface, the stand to the right is due for demolition this coming summer to be replaced making the ground complete and modern with a 20/22k capacity.

The 2nd photo is their academy and further training pitches.

Bearing in mind Lorient is only the size of Weston Super Mare, the facilities are quite impressive I think you will agree.

Just realised that this photo was pre the end opposite the stand with the white roof was completed, have added a 3rd photo to show that stand.

ruddy hell....didn't think the thames looked that nice

it's a port town, that had the shit bombed out of it during WW2 by the allies, 85/90% of the town obliterated trying to wipeout the Uboat pens that still stand and are used today, the port is split into 3 naval, fishing and private, 2nd biggest fishing port in France.

The owner takes no shit, as with most French grounds the local council own it, which makes it a communal resource building and is used often as such, the council kept delaying the finance for the new stand and the owner Loic Fery gave them 2 weeks to set an acceptable date or he would relocate to another town about 30k away and the decision was made tout suite.

The new stand (3rd photo) is south facing and has 100 solar panels, that not only give the ground power but also they sell to the French grid, the new stand was designed to house a conference hall that converts into a theatre and is used most days and nights.

"Happy New Year EMB".

Uncle TFR

Thanks uncle.

Some people on OTIB are always striving to find a good model that would suit BCFC as they strive to survive in a game where the only thing that seems to matter is making in many cases young, egostisical, prima donnas into millionaires.

I believe that FC Lorient is a very interesting model to that end, since their relegation from ligue 1 in 2002 and subsequent promotion back in 2006, their survival in the French top tier is pretty much thanks to the way that the club is run.

They pick up discarded academy players especially from Brittany's biggest club Rennes (regarded as one of the best run academies in Europe), they also buy young, raw, hungry, talented players and are not frightened to dig a little deeper to get their man, specialising in of course French nationals, wider Europe, also Africa and even South America and having nurtured that talent they sell big, I would suspect that their profit since 2006 on transfers is something in the order of 50mil +.

and now they are greatly expanding their own academy as per photo 2.

A couple of examples they signed Laurent Koscielny for 1.7mil (euros) from Tours, he played one season (35 games) and was sold to Arsenal for around 12mil (with add ons).

Jordan Ayew at Villa is another example 1 season (31 games) and free transfer is sold for 10mil + add ons.

There are loads more examples during this period.

Sunderland and other prem clubs and bigger European clubs are sniffing around at least 4 or 5 of their current squad, the only sniffing around our players at present is people with seasonal colds.

They are my closest ligue 1 club and I watch as many games as possible and have a reasonable knowledge of the workings of the club, I hope this explains my interest and why I thought sharing it might be of interest to other forum users, they are IMHO a good model to follow for a club such as ours, a model not only re transfers but also improving infrastructure and the way the club interacts with it's fanbase.

To just be mentioned in connection with EMB is a most humbling experience.
