Linkedarm wall
.....you listen to him on Sky and you'd never think he'd lose a game of football as a Manager. His record at Valencia suggests otherwise. LJ's record over the last 3 years and 150 games or so is about the same as Cott's. So the point is , don't be too upset if you don't like LJ, it may work, at least he has a better record than the 'expert' Gary Neville.
Lack of Action Man
Gary Neville is an engineered expert. He has analysts and writers feeding him his next analytical section when he is on sky sports. I cannot however deny that he is a good coach, but being a manager is a different matter. Probably a good summary. There isn't a great history of northerners charismatically waltzing in to a spanish club and making a positive impact. My Robson did reasonably well though. ScottishRed
I actually thought that it was a huge risk appointing him. - lack of experience - doesn't speak Spanish - unfamiliar league However I didn't think he would struggle as much as he has. A lot of fans treat Neville as gods gift to football, but the reason why he does so well on MNF is because the production value is much higher than on MOTD. MNF is catered to a certain demographic, whereas MOTD is for everyone. You could make Alan Shearer look like a footballing guru if you put a good team of researchers behind him. Last 150 or so for both (Cotts was over a 5 year period taking in Forest) think Cotts won like 9 more games, draws and loses pretty similar. 9 games is nothing, well unless you're Gary Neville thats is!!!!!!! Sorry that's absolute tosh. You can create all the fancy gadgets and video clips you like, it doesn't make you an analyst. Neville has been on shows which aren't MNF and shown himself far better than any other pundit in the country, including on his own station, and Carragher. Shelton’s Love Gravy
Gary Neville, all things being equal, is a bit of a plonker. If I ever ran into him, I would subject him to a fully compulsory body cavity search. Just to make absolutely sure he wasn't concealing any inappropriate belongings anywhere...
