Let's allow the truth get in the way of a good rant.......

The Judge stated that while press intrusion was to blame for Simpson not completing the work, a fine would be "no punishment", given his financial position.

The judge said Simpson's sentence for assaulting his ex-partner Stephanie Ward was a "richly-deserved punishment".

The former Manchester United player's community sentence was revoked, and a curfew imposed.

Simpson must wear an electronic tag and stay indoors at his home in Salford between 22:00 and 06:00 for the next 21 days.

Mr Ryan said Simpson had work commitments in the next 10 days, including end of season parades and functions with the rest of his team which were not to be regarded as "a jolly for the players".

He also said Simpson was expected to fly out to Thailand with the club's owners on Tuesday, but the judge rejected any plea to defer the curfew.

The right-back, who also played for Newcastle and QPR, was arrested on 29 December after a reports of a row at a house in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

Think in fairness it has moved on from there.

Leicester City star Danny Simpson has won an appeal against a curfew that would have prevented him joining events to mark his club's Premier League win.

The curfew had been imposed on Thursday, after a community sentence - given to Simpson for assaulting the mother of his child - was revoked.

The 29-year-old complained that "press intrusion" was stopping him completing the 300 hours of unpaid work.

A judge has now lifted the curfew - but restored the community order.

The player denied attempting to strangle his ex-partner but was convicted last May and ordered to complete 300 hours in unpaid work.

Judge Richard Mansell QC at Manchester Crown Court overturned the decision and ruled Simpson must now complete the unpaid work after all.

On Thursday his lawyer had complained journalists had found where he was carrying out his community service, making it impossible.

'Back to square one'

Judge Mansell said: "He's hardly keeping a low profile, turning up for unpaid work in a Lamborghini. Why can't he get a cab?"

He said he "did not buy" Simpson could not do his unpaid work elsewhere - other footballers had done it.

That's out of date. It went back in front of a judge who refused to accept he couldn't complete community service : other footballers do and have done so, why can't he. So he's not under curfew, he must complete his community service and the judge has allowed him to take part in the club's celebrations.

Exactly, and this is largely what I posted earlier.

I do not wish to be vindictive, but I cannot help but think that, if he had simply accepted his original punishment (and not driven to work in his 200K lamborghini) this would now be history and he could celebrate with his teammates.

Blimey- the wheels of justice spin quickly....

Personally and IMO - I think a curfew with an ankle bracelet would have been more appropriate and hurt most during this period. I'm uncomfortable about being able to smack yer bitch up and yet celebrate something else when it's all connected by Court proceedings. But hey ho, I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to domestic violence .

Exactly, how about him being a man and taking his first punishment but no he couldn't take that and then he couldn't take the alternative so he's back to his first

In fairness, did sound like the second judge was getting pretty close to saying, stop acting like a spoilt child and do your hours like you were first asked and stop winning about it.

Not sure on this one Simpson has come out on top, and quite right to. He has just spent a pile of money to be back where he started.
