Admin phantom Posted September 5, 2016 Admin Report Share Posted September 5, 2016 Was just reading this incredible article about Chelsea and how many players that they have sent out on loan this season. Their wage bill must be astronomical, assuming they have a 25 man PL squad, then academy etc, they must be paying towards some if not all 38 too ! Their secretary certainly must have been busy sorting all this paperwork out ! JUAN CUADRADO - Three year loan deal with Juventus LEWIS BAKER - Season long loan at Vitesse Arnhem KENEDY - Season long loan at Watford BERTRAND TRAORE -Season long loan at Ajax ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN - Season long loan at Borussia Monchengladbach ABDUL BABA RAHMAN - Season long loan at Schalke LOIC REMY - Season long loan at Crystal Palace PATRICK BAMFORD - Season long loan at Burnley ALEX KIWOMYA - Loan until January at Crewe CHARLIE COLKETT - Season long loan at Bristol Rovers CHARLY MUSONDA - Season long loan at Real Betis CHRISTIAN ATSU - Season long loan at Newcastle United LUCAS PIAZON - Season long loan at Fulham JAMAL BLACKMAN - Loan until January at Wycombe Wanderers TOMAS KALAS - Season long loan at Fulham MATT MIAZGA - Season long loan at Vitesse Arnhem DION CONROY - Loan until January at Aldershot Town ISIAH BROWN - Season long loan at Rotherham United ISLAM FERUZ - Season long loan at Mouscron-Peruwelz DANILO PANTIC - Season long loan at Excelsior JEREMIE BOGA - Season long loan at Granada JHOAO RODRIGUEZ - Season long loan at Independiente Sante Fe JORDAN HOUGHTON - Season long loan at Doncaster Rovers JAKE CLARKE SALTER - Season long loan at Bristol Rovers NATHAN - Season long loan at Vitesse Arnhem KENNETH OMERUO - Season long loan at Alanyaspor KASEY PALMER - Season long loan at Huddersfield Town MARIO PASALIC - Season long loan at AC Milan MATEJ DELAC - Season long loan at Mouscron-Peruwelz MICHAEL HECTOR - Season long loan at Eintracht Frankfurt MITCHELL BEENEY - Loan until January at Crawley Town NATHAN AKE - Season long loan at Bournemouth NATHAN BAXTER - Loan until January at Metropolitan Police ALEX DAVEY - Loan until January at Crawley Town TAMMY ABRAHAM - Season long loan at Bristol City BEKANTY VICTORIEN - Season long loan at Sint Truidense WALLACE - Season long loan at Gremio CHRISTIAN CUEVAS - Season long loan at Sint Truidense
chinapig
Yes I saw this last week. For Chelsea harvesting young players to make money is a business: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/01/chelsea-38-players-loan-who-where See also: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/sep/01/premier-league-loans-diamonds-chelsea
Fiale
Suck them all up, make some money on a few players to fund all the rest. Sad part is though that it stops these youngsters coming though other leagues / teams and giving those clubs a chance to unearth and make money on players. How many youngsters are actually being horded by the premiership in total ? Do they not have a system where the loan club pay the wages, but that they pay less the more the player is played. So Chelsea can ensure their players get onto the pitch as much as possible, if not the clubs have to start handing out some serious cash.
EnderMB
To be fair, at least they're putting their players out on loan to get some much-needed experience. A lot of other Premier League clubs are quite happy to buy young talent and leave them in the U21's until they are either ready, or haven't developed, like Manchester United. Look at the likes of Januzai and Rashford, who almost appeared out of nowhere. Both of them are definitely Premier League standard, so it makes you wonder whether both of them would have developed into even better talents if they had spent their previous year either out on loan to a Championship/League 1 side, or building themselves up in the lower leagues. How you go about it is up for discussion. The Premier League wants B teams, which hopefully will never happen. Personally, I'd like to see an overhaul of youth contracts to enable youngsters to move on once they hit 18 in order to improve their chances of playing; anything that can be done to ensure that 17 year old and over players get competitive game time. Reportedly, Januzai's problem is that he likes the trappings a bit too much and doesn't put in the work. Dortmund took him on loan and soon found that out. Rashford meanwhile is a first team squad regular. Furthermore, as Nicky Butt has said, United's youth system has declined alarmingly. They are now doing a root and branch review but they at least have a history of bringing young players through to the first team, unlike Chelsea. There's a pretty high attrition rate at Arsenal too and it will be interesting to see how many make it to the first from Man City's renowned Academy. Young players would do better to join the likes of Southampton. If they actually want to play football that is rather than just make money and party. Bizarre Was just as bizarre as when they bought Djilboji(can't spell it). Though they turned him into profit as well. Maybe they seek players that can gain them a few mil profit after a year or so. There should be a loan limit and limit to squad sizes though. There are a few handy players in those bigger "academies" that would help out a fair few lower premier league sides and championship sides. alexukhc
Then you look at teams in Italy, they have a massive 14 subs and still manage to send 70 out on loan, crazy

Since the Class of 92 broke through have United had another fertile period of youth development?
formerly known as ivan
Didn't they have more than this out on loan last season? Thinking it was around 44 players.

I think last season answers the question as far as numbers are concerned. Quality is another matter though, which was Nicky Butt's point. Though 92 is probably not a great benchmark as it was an exceptional crop for any club. Much to Alan Hansen's embarrassment.
