People want him to step in on Saturday to replace O'Neil, not sure he's going to be anywhere near ready for that.

Agreed. Would of been nice to have been coasting at 3-1 and brought him on for 15 mins or so. He didn't appear ready to be introduced as he was.

At the time of our first substitution - Golbourne for Tomlin - Wednesday had already made all their subs.

That should have given LJ an advantage in countering the overhauled 10 Wednesday then had on the pitch. With his full complement of subs' still available, you'd hope he'd be able to see any new threats, and at least make changes (both in personnel and formation) that nullified them, and hopefully outwit Carvalhal, who had already shown his full hand.

That their reassembled 10 should take charge over ours has to be a disappointment, and reflects on some puzzling changes by LJ on the night.

Tbf to LJ his subs. have proved inspired more than once, and individually they're not going to come off every time. Depending on their effectiveness the manager can be seen anything from a genius to a chump, and in reality much of that is down to luck.

I can't help feeling though that last night, with the benefit of having 3 substitutions to play with, and Carvalhal having no further opportunity to counter them, he should have done better. Our 3 substitutions, both individually and in their entirety, seemed to do nothing to shore up the team, put us on the front foot, or counter Wednesday's new threats, and on the night almost certainly played a part in our downfall.

The Wendie's subs were pretty impressive to be fair , Forestieri and Wallace are big , big players to bring on .

I wonder why they did n't start ?

The game could have been a lot different if they had .

I was trying to be fair, Major, and of course Forestieri and Wallace were already on the pitch when LJ had his 3 subs. still in hand, so he had a good idea of how they were set to play for the remainder of the game.

If LJ's being fair too, he'll not only have a strong word with one or two players who 'crumbled' but perhaps privately reproach himself for his 2nd half substitutions and tactics, which seemingly did nothing to help at all, and possibly quite the reverse.

Having set the team up so well to begin with, he seems to have been thoroughly outsmarted by Carvahal when it came to the 10 v 10, so perhaps on this occasion it's not just a few players who have to have a long hard look at themselves over our capitulation.
