Eddie Hitler
That in 1936 Joe Payne of Luton Town set the record for the highest number of goals scored by one player in an English League game at ten! And his main position was a wing half; he was only playing at centre forward owing to injuries to other players. Astounding. Take a bow Joe. Rudolf Hucker
From childhood Joe Payne's record of 10 goals in a single match was one of my favourites, but I can't for the life of me think why.

No, it's just one of those records that seems to stick in your mind for some reason.

That was a new one on me, just like watching it live. Bring back throwing on toilet rolls! It looked very modern, hard to believe it was almost 40 years ago. That's a good highlights package, it confirms my own memory that if it wasn't for Glyn Jones it could have been 15-0.
handsofclay
What nobody has mentioned is that the four goal hero for Spurs was a product of Bristol City but the highest he got with us was as a non playing sub the previous season against West Ham (in the days of one substitute). He was then sold for peanuts to Torquay. We were short of a good goalscorer when he notched those four on debut v Rovers and the following month got Royle on loan from Man City, who then notched four on his debut for us!
