Interview today strikes me as a bit strange saying that they have a limited budget and that players they bring in this summer will struggle to make an impact as they are not the required standard. I know he is trying to manage expectations (what little there are from Sunderland fans) but two things I would question about this...

Firstly, why would anyone want to join them now knowing that they are looked at as the best of a bad bunch. This may be the case but do the players need to know that?

Secondly, why sign them at all if you know they aren't up to the required standard? Has he admitted defeat already and signing players he feels can do a job in the championship?

I think we know ourselves by some of LJ, as well as previous managers, signings that sometimes they are no better than what we already have so why sign them in the first place as you are then left with the task of trying to pass them onto someone else!
