The Lesson Learnt from FA Cup Games

Watford (7 changes) lost 1-0 at Millwall
Leeds (10 changes) lost 1-0 at Sutton United
Liverpool (9 changes) lost 1-2 to Wolves
Brighton (9 changes) lost 3-1 to Lincoln City
Newcastle (9 changes) lost 3-0 at Oxford United
Southampton (10 changes) lost 0-5 to Arsenal

Okay, so the changes above are more extreme than the 'tinkering' that has been LJ's method of operation this season but making significant changes (even when the opposition could be several divisions below) does not work.

When City have changed 3 or 4 players (often switching formation as well) and then taken on a team in the same division, is it any wonder that we've had such a poor run since October?

We were flying on empty in terms of squad numbers when Steve Cotterill's side won the League 1 title but our success was built on a settled team and formation.

Unfortunately, it's too late for Lee Johnson this time but assuming he works as a first team coach again, he needs to resist so much squad rotation.

Maybe the lure of a decent chequebook has contributed to our current plight.

You have forgotten one very important fact from yesterday.

Burnley ( 8 changes won 2-0 v Bristol City.

Burnley played a reserve side yesterday.

The six teams above all doing pretty well in their respective divisions and they lost.  Less of a surprise that Burnley were able to beat us given our current form - and we made 4 changes as well.

We make changes every week. From what I hear Burnley didn't get out of 2nd gear.

A team we were playing in the same league last season is now able to beat us with ease, even with their reserve side.

Just shows how bad we have become, even after spending a fortune on new signings.

It was still filled with players that would start easily for us. Some would take Darikwa on loan. Their normal starting CBs. Tarkowski who was a top championship player. It wasn't the same as some of the other clubs playing academy lads at many positions. Plus you could argue we had a "reserve" team playing or at least many reserve players.

I couldn't argue that, I'm the same as LJ, I don't know who our first team are.

You missed a few out, including:

Man Utd (9 changes) beat Wigan (zero changes) 4-0...

LJ should never have taken that agricultural course.....

Last year they beat us 4-0. Saturday was a 50% reduction in our deficiency. For this you have to bow down to the Tactical Genius. For I am the Tactical Genius, and this is my TRIUMPHANT return.
